Woke up this morning to find a damp patch on the living room wall. Never had anything there before. I think that the waste pipe from the bathroom goes vertically down the wall behind behind the boxed in area .Any thoughts ?

Maybe one of the kids threw some water on the wall? Maybe water splashed against the outside of the wall when the neighbour was washing his car?

Going to need to cut in to the boxing to find the source though... I'd suggest starting at the top under the bath & in the bathroom and work your way down.

My ideas were based on the information initially provided.Looking at the photos it does look like it's a burst pipe/joint. Though the location of the damp patch is not what you'd typically expect from a leaking pipe0

Had a look under bath no leaks there. Will have a problem looking round toilet waste as it's built in.0

There is a boxed area directly underneath bathroom. Would that be some sort of piping that could be a problem? But there are no damp patches there or anywhere else.0

My guess is it is leaking from a joint, and the water is running down the wall before hitting a bracket. From there, tacking across to the plasterboard and coming through. I'm afraid where ever the leak is, you will have to knock holes in stuff. Start at the top of the boxing above the stain.

The boxing could well be lagged/wrapped in insulation for acoustic reasons. It may be that the water is tracking along or down the pipe and the point where the damp patch is presenting is where the saturated insulation is touching the boxing. As mentioned above, it is quite a big damp patch to suddenly appear so id guess that it is push fit waste pipe and one of the joints has been dislodged, possibly on the boss where the smaller waste pipe joins the stackSome people don't exaggerate........... They just remember big!1
