EE Options For Going To France
My partner is on a contract with EE. I am struggling to find what would be chargeable there - the EE website is only eager to sell a £2.47/ day plan.
She will turn off roaming while there to use Whatsapp, etc on wifi. Will there be costs for receiving calls or texts making it sensible to pay the daily charge even if making no outbound calls?

When roaming, it does cost to receive calls and for voicemail. SMS are not charged.
Depending on how long she is going, it's either best to pay for a roaming add on or if a longer period a local SIM.1 -
EE charge the £2.47/day only on days when there's some activity. So with roaming disabled completely there should be no charges. With data roaming switched off, calls and texts can still be sent/received. I'm not sure whether an incoming text, normally free to receive globally, will trigger the daily charge, I would assume not but it could be worth checking. Beware of voicemail charges, best to disable.

There is a roam further add on for £25 per month (can be added / removed as required) should you want a known fixed price which allows your UK allowance to be used in many countries.

If you have a dual sim phone (?) then get a Lebara SIM which includes EU roaming and use that for data

You could get a temporary pay as you go SIM which includes free EU roaming. Smarty allow you to use up to 12gb of data for free each month in the EU. A 16gb sim will cost £8. This would be the easiest thing to do. https://smarty.co.uk/all-plans
Alternatively, you could get an esim for France or the EU as a whole. The following page includes a list of esim providers: https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/mobiles/cheap-roaming-calls/
Your final option is to buy a local pay as you go sim in France, but to be honest this is probably a bit too much hassle compared to the previous two options.1 -
Incoming calls and texts will be free (as long as voicemail is switched off) anything else will be chargeable1
