I suspect the pin on a washing machine is mostly there to prevent interference with a running cycle and to limit access to configuration on fancier models.

I think you'll find that respondents may have a similar attitude.
Thats fine.  I just asked a simple question and if there is nothing on the market with a pin code, that's the reality.  If that's the case I will just wire a smart switch from the consumer unit which I can control with my phone and which will allow me to stop unauthorised access to the cooker.
Just make sure the switch is capable of carrying the load that the cooker will draw.

Stopping an older child is a very different prospect from stopping a vulnerable adult.

Describe the problem you actually want to solve. Otherwise we're going to struggle to help you.

I want a cooker with a pin code to stop unauthroised persons using it.  Thats pretty self explanatory and the reason items have pin codes.  The same way you can have a pincode / password on a phone, computer, smart lock, electric car charger, thermostat, washing machine etc.  I really don't feel the need to expand further on this explanation.

Sorry but I still don't follow.
Why is there is a need to stop unauthorised persons using a cooker?  How have you ended up in a situation where you feel you need to block access to the cooker?  Who's going to break into somebody's house to make omelettes?

There are stories of burglars who do break into commercial kitchens with a view to ransack it but a domestic kitchen?

do you mean a PIN code that you have to enter before you can then turn it on and it starts heating up or do you mean a PIN code to also stop you for example opening the door when it is on and hot (for safety)

what do you mean by cooker - that covers a multitude of devices from free standing to built in? do you mean just to the oven part or if it was freestanding do you also want to PIN code to the hobs on top for example

I'm starting to feel that this might not be such a bad idea.

My partner is a dreadful cook.
I had a housemate at uni who used to come home hammered and put a pizza in then fall asleep. Kitchen full of smoke on more than one occasion. Pin lock might have been a good idea !

Like others I am intrigued just who these "unauthorised users" who nevertheless have physical access to your cooker might be?
I can envisage 3 or 4 scenarios. (All of which would cause problems if you did try to prevent/restrict usage so not really viable).

I am not sure who would be the unauthorised users of a cooker, but the OP has a wish here and the product sought does not seem to exist.

There are some retrofit devices aimed at adults with dementia but those I have found do not appear to achieve the objective the OP desires.

My car has an option for a PIN to drive.  I don't use the feature, but understand the benefit that would offer to those that choose to use it.
Prompted by this thread, I found there are all sorts of domestic appliances that can have a PIN to use option - fridges, lawnmowers, washing machines, tumble dryers, televisions.  The functionality does not seem common on most of these devices but can be obtained when specifically needed.  I don't understand why the PIN to use function would be wanted but, clearly, some manufacturers think it is a need as the functionality is available.  On that basis, although I can't understand why, there is no reason that an oven would not be available with the similar functionality.  That rationale does not help, though, as I cannot find an oven or hob with PIN to use features.

If the device desired is not available, perhaps the OP could seek to restrict access to the kitchen as a whole with a PIN-access lock.  That's the best idea I can come up with.
  • A lot of these seem to be a byproduct of the device being made smart, when once a device has been fitted with an operating system it is fairly easy and cheap to bolt on other features even if almost no one will use them. I cannot see a need for a smart oven, but then equally I cannot see a need for a smart washing machine, smart fridge or smart tumble dryer.

Clearly there's insufficient demand for the suppliers to add this feature to cookers. PIN codes on washer/dryers make sense in apartment buildings where the residents share a facility and preventing unauthorised use etc.
