Barclays Cashback Rewards, 1% in Sept, Oct and Nov

Barclays Cashback Rewards is now available to all Premier customers (with and without Avios rewards), as well as anyone who still holds Blue Rewards.

They are offering 1% cashback on all "eligible" debit card transactions, capped at £5/month up to and including November. Cash transactions are excluded.

Still not worth £5/month for (unless you're a big fan of MLS!) but might be worth taking advantage of if you're waiting until the end of the month to cancel Blue Rewards, or you're a Premier customer.

I received that email too. I can't recall what types of transactions qualify for the spend and can't see any terms and conditions online. Do you think making a debit card payment into a savings account/investment platform counts?
  • It's probably a way to try and entice people to stick with Blue Rewards since they scrapped the cashback. At £5/month capped cashback it means you break even again, so it is merely kicking the bucket down the road for a few months. It does mean £500/month actual debit card spend, which could put people off.

@granta in the absence of any terms to the contrary I'd say you're probably okay to do as you propose. I've just checked, and for the Barclays cashback incentive I took advantage of at the tail end of last year, I made deposits into my NS&I account and it counted towards the cashback, so I'd say you're probably okay to do similar.

For anyone else who needs ideas for ways to artificially generate debit card spend, see this comprehensive thread on the subject:

I'd suggest they'd probably be deemed "cash transactions", but I could be wrong and there's little harm trying it.
  • Just a warning, if you encounter any difficulties and try to contact customer services the chances are they won't have a clue what you're talking about.

    Best of luck.

To be honest, that's often the experience with Barclays in general I find.

How do I get Barclays Cashback from Premier account? The rewards section on the app doesn't show it separately to Blue Rewards, which is still saying the £5/m fee that isn't relevant for Premier accounts

Click, "Your Rewards" then "Premier Banking" on the next screen ("Products tab"), then "Explore all Premier Benefits" and you'll find "Barclays Cashback Rewards" on the next screen in the "Rewards" section.

Thanks, I've done that to register, but can't do the same to get back to it afterwards to see the offers/balance again

I'll give it till tomorrow but I was expecting it to end up showing directly on Your Rewards after

nvm I forgot it was the accounts home that shows it after

I concur there's a whole thread covering people's nightmares last time this was rolled out. Good luck.
