Octopus refund.

Options
I had a survey from Octopus for a heat pump.  Even though we have a rural semi, the surveyor said there wasn't anywhere suitable to put the pump.  He said my £500 deposit would be refunded within 14 days.  The survey was 14 August and I hadn't heard anything from Octopus about the refund since then.  I phoned them up this morning, they were a bit vague about it, asking if the deposit I paid was £200.  They said they would look in to it.  Basically if I hadn't chased it up this morning, I'm not sure when or if I would have got my money back.  They've just sent a text now saying they will look into the hold up and chase up the refund.

the surveyor said there wasn't anywhere suitable to put the pump.

May I ask what the issue was with the pumps location?

The side return wasn't wide enough, the front window was too low and as we have double French windows at the back there was not enough wall space.  He looked at putting it further back into the garden but then said it would be in view of the top of the neighbour's French windows.

I paid Octopus a £500 deposit for a solar panel survey last year. We didn’t go ahead with them and I had to constantly chase for a few weeks to get it back.  It was around 5 weeks and lots of excuses from Octopus before it was finally refunded.
  • I had a survey with Octopus last year who also said there was no suitable location for a heat pump (I have a back garden with a patio so not sure why it couldn't go there) I contacted a local firm who had no issues siting it on the back garden. I did have to chase them for a while to get the deposit back but they did pay it.

Just in terms of the OP not being allowed because the neighbour can see it, seems one rule for one...
