Argos refusing return - help please

Hi would appreciate any advice on next steps to take.
I purchased a Macbook Pro on 22/12/2022 for £2425.00 from argos on a love to shop card.
The laptop developed a fault on 05/08/24 and the screen is blank and does not display any image.
I booked this in with Apple and Apple confirmed the laptop is faulty and has no damage from myself, however they will not fix it as it is out of 13 month warranty.
I have taken it to Argos who first said they will send it for repair woth their independent repair specialist but are now saying I have to pay for it as it is a faulty component on the laptop at a cost of between £700 - £800.
I have refused and spoke. To customer services on Twitter who asked me if is urgent that I get the laptop back and is it affecting a business. I responded yes as it was bought for business purposes and not they are saying they are under no obligation to fix it and to get it fixed under business insurance.
Surely after under 18month a £2500 laptop should not stop working and they should fix under UK consumer law... what can I now do?
Any help would be appreciated.

My understanding is that UK consumer law won't be applicable to a business purchase, and it sounds as if you have told them that that was what this was.djhmse said:

Definition of a "consumer" in the Consumer Rights Act 2015: "... an individual acting for purposes that are wholly or mainly outside that individual's trade, business, craft or profession."
If you've told Argos that this is a business purchase you don't have any rights under consumer legislation.
What rights you have are covered in the T&Cs of your contract with Argos and the Sale of Goods Act. This board really only deals with consumer rights and there isn't so much expertise on Sale of Goods Act.

They're correct. You've told them you're not a consumer, so consumer laws don't apply.djhmse said:Hi would appreciate any advice on next steps to take.

You should look at the Sale of Goods Act, which does apply to business purchases, and see if there's a route there. That's where a business insurer or retained legal advisor could help.0 -
Might as well get a repair quote from Apple too if you can.0

If the warranty is 13 months it's 13 months, that's nothing to do with Argos. They do offer extra 'care' at time of sale for extra cover and you didn't take that, so I don't think you have a case0

I don't think that's applicable in the case of a business purchase. There's something in the terms about it only being applicable to personal purchases used at home and not for commercial purposes.FlorayG said:If the warranty is 13 months it's 13 months, that's nothing to do with Argos.
