New Laptop Wanted - HELP

Thanks everyone. I appreciate all the advice. My thinking was wrong - "if it doesn't work, replace it". I've had it cleaned so it doesn't overheat anymore but the touch pad is buggered. When I try to use it, it just stops working or I have to switch it on and off.
I'm going to get a new one anyway and will take the advice you have given.
Thanks to the poster who said not to put it on a duvet or a pillow or a cushion. I wasn't aware of this. I'll get a tray for it.
I'm going to look for a Lenovo or an Asus. You folks have mentioned technical things but they've gone right over my head. Clearly you are all experts. Haha.
I really appreciate all your help and thank you all for your time.

Sounds like the Op is on track perhaps check Hotukdeals for good offers ...the longer you check watch the site etc the better you get at doing so.
I got a new 2023 Vivobook 16" i5 8gb 256gb 300nit screen for £274 delivered....it took awhile to find this 16" but with your budget you may not have to wait long for what you want .....at a better cost than currys .
Along with my 1st laptop cooking from it being left on a duvet years ago I also completely switched to using a cordless mouse rather than using the laptop trackpad .
I dont bother using the trackpad at all now... the mouse is far better ,works on bed sheets etc and the laptop lives on a old laptop cooler so I can put it down and not be concerned regards any overheating .
I ve only heard my new laptop fan going once in six months as I dont really need a high spec laptop .
Around the 450 probably the 550 mark would get a higher spec Asus Vivobook via the hotukdeals site if you look often and wait out .

Was the touch pad working before you took it in?
I think that this is the first time you've mentioned it.
If it's only stopped working after being 'repaired' then it may just be a case of the connecting ribbon not being seated correctly.
A quick job for the repair shop to check.Move along, nothing to see.1 -
