  • i have the same laptop and bought it around the same time as you, never had any problems with it concerning heat so i think you may have got to get it cleaned as your first attempt.

Main thing for me is a quiet laptop and good battery life, and I'm happy to pay whatever. Thanks,

This is, after all, a money saving website, but we can't stop you shelling out a grand to replace something that just needs cleaning.
Do you have an independent computer shop locally who could look at it for you, if you don't fancy the job yourself?
I'm sure they would fix it for you.

Fair do's, I will find someone to do it. I would probably break if it I tried to remove anything. Cheers.

If you do go for a new one, I'd suggest a minimum of a 1920x1080 screen resolution (ie. matching HD 1080p video).
Also a minimum of 16GB RAM.
Do you have any suggestions or links? I will try and look it up.

I always check out what Dell has to offer; they're a good benchmark.

However, others are suggesting a bit of maintenance on your existing machine might save you your money.

... I thought the more you spent, the better it would be and the longer it would last.
You don't need to pay for a Ferrari or a Rolls Royce (or Merc, or BMW, or ......) if you just need a car to get to work and go shopping.
Similarly you don't need to buy a high spec CAD, video editing, or gaming laptop if you only want to do some general work tasks and some online shopping.

  • Also see what's causing the high fan use.
    https://www.anoopcnair.com/access-computer-management-in-windows-11/
That should tell you the program(s) that are causing high CPU use.

    Let's Be Careful Out There
  • I found out the hard way about cooking a laptop.

Never ever use or leave a laptop on a cushion, bedspread  duvet or anything cushy an soft ...not without a laptop cooler under it 100% of the time .
If you use a laptop on the above soft furnishings.... your blocking the vents so obviously the fans going to try and stop the laptop self destructing and be loud as its a user fault issue .

So its going to happen again and again .

I left mine running on the duvet I think a automatic update started and it cooked itself requiring a repair .
Now I use always a old laptop cooler under my laptop  all the time which also provides support when lifting it multiple times a day .

Hillstreetblues advice above sounds very good too just in case its something else or a combo of issues including the above

Looking at the requirements the OP has they would be best getting one of the Snapdragon X Elite laptops. The Surface Laptop 7 13.8" would be my recommendation.

    Don't put laptop on cushion.
Get a lap tray or bed tray

Waaaaaaay more than the OP needs.

First step, see if the existing laptop can be repaired. It may just be a good clean out, it may be that the processor has a heatsink and the paste has dried out making it inefficient. Local PC shop should be able to sort.

Failing that the spec the OP needs isn't that high really. Something in the Intel i5 or AMD Ryzen 5 range processor wise, an SSD drive, maybe 512Gb and preferably 16GB Ram (although 8 would do).

Lokking in the £500 range, not the £1250 range for the Surface Laptop.
