    I've been Money Tipped!
Our Dynamic Earth is free in Edinburgh this weekend, (25 and 26th July 2009) all weekend due to the Homecoming 2009 etc. We have just booked tickets to go on the train for the day. Kids have been hassling me to go for ages, managed to get cheap train tickets too. Clan Gathering will be hoaching with people and been to loads of highland games before anyway so hoping ODE will be kind of quiet. ;-)

Great info in this thread! Lots of great ideas for free and payable things to do.

The biggest problem I have when I visit Edinburgh is eating at night when I have a 12 year old. Last year, we struggled to find anywhere that allowed children in, we ended up in Wetherspoons but had to be out by 8pm. This christmas I would love to find somewhere else to try that will allow her in with no deadlines to watch.

We prefer english style, not posh dining (not with a 12 year old!!) or even chinese buffet. I saw the suggestions for the chinese but unsure if there is a time restriction on children?

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

No restrictions on the Chinese, but Pizza Express, GBK and Bella Italia are all suitable for children in the evening and you can get vouchers for them

Or somewhere like The Tailend, or La Favourita are all family friendly. PM me if you want specifics, all my food reviews and ideas on www.edinburghspotlight.com

Alison, a BIG :T for your help! Last christmas was so hard trying to find somewhere as we hadnt realised there were restrictions (I guess you take it for granted when we can generally go anywhere with children here at home!) and so ran out of time to look properly!

I have had a quick look at your blog, SO SO useful and I always prefer to take the word of a local rather than theor websites.

I have bookmarked your blog, and hope it is ok if I may pm you closer to December to get up to date info?

    Thanks again

Just been to edinburgh. A word of caution if you're driving. Beware of the road works. They're putting a tram system so alot of the street are closed. I had sat nav and was a nightmare getting through the city centre.

TGI Fridays allows kids in any time, i know its not 'English Style', but there should be something everyone would like on the menu. Not too expensive either, kids meals start at £2.99.

Hi, any new discounts for this month? I'll be killing time the week after next while my OH works in Edinburgh - and I can't wait, but money is tight as I've been made redundant. Would like to stay within the city as much as possible, thanks.

  • Edinburgh castle have free entry in celebration of St Andrew's Day on the 28th and 29th of November.

The St Andrew's Day Rally Committee are also having their 8th annual parade behind the stockbridge pipe band from the castle down the royal mile at 4.30 on Sat the 28th. They're collecting christmas presents for edinburgh sick kids hospital at the castle esplanade before the parade sets off.

there's also a ticketed evening event at taylors hall, everythings on their website.

i was there last year with my family and had a great day out for free....my favourite price.
