  • Allowing that it feels as though you definitely have no real faith in your current meter OP, then surely the best option here is as Reed suggests above to just get yourself on the list for a replacement ASAP. Suppliers are keen to get customers onto SMETS2 meters now, so you very likely wouldn't even have to wait long!

  • Given that you actually benefit financially from inexplicably larger overnight reading coupled with smaller daytime readings, I think you did the right thing by taking the small financial settlement and calling it quits.  And presumably your supplier gave you the option of having your current meter replaced with a new smart meter?
Yes ... my initial alarm was based on seeing ridiculously high overnight readings/usage that did not and could not correspond with our "normal" usage pattern ... also ... I hadn't initially seen the equally baffling and unusually low daytime usage that occurred at the same time ... nor the fact that this had happened on a number of prior occasions that hadn't been noticed at all until further investigation.

I have still not received a satisfactory explanation as to why or how these anomalies occurred ... they were definitely not as a result of our actual electrical activity ... although overall, there appears to have been an unexpected but positive advantage in my favour.

And yes ... a new smart meter has been offered ... that, and a possible supplier change are both currently under consideration ...

Many thanks for your input R-R ... and to those others who have contributed to this thread.

    Cheers!
