good afternoon

I have an samsung s95d 55 inch tv and notcied about 1 week ago that looking side view on the tv is bent, now on futher inspection it looks to me the tv is bent top to bottom middle, i have reported this to samsung and they are sending out a repiar person next week, but made a point of saying it may not be coverd under the warranty, i did not check when i took the tv out the box and carfuly install it on my av unit where its not been touched ever since, i have a feeling samsung are going to refuse to repair the tv or replace it under warranty or blame me, surly a tv should not be able to be bent under normal and carfuly install of tv, samsung customer service are horrible, i read a part under 2015 consumers act that under 6 months its conciders a fault  and for the manafactuer to prove otherwise, the yv seams to work fine, but i think the screen might be slightly bending.

brought in may 2024 direct from samsung uk

any advice so i can prepare myself

regards

The obvious question from Samsung will be: Why has it taken you three months to notice it’s bent?  It suggests that it’s become bent since purchase, and Samsung’s immediate suspicion will be consumer damage of some sort.  Now of course it may have been bent out of the box and it’s taken a specific angle of viewing to notice it, or there is some sort of manufacturing flaw that’s caused it to bend over time.

Is it set up in an area where it gets a lot of direct sunlight, or exposure to high temperatures, e.g. in a bay window or conservatory?
  • Burden of proof lies with the retailer as less than 6 months.

OP worth checking your paper work to see which legal entity the retailer actually was.

Warranty is just it’s terms, consumer rights will be with the retailer itself.

Within 6 months they should either repair or replace and if not, and you exercise the right to reject within 6 months, a full refund.

Is your Samsung 55" TV one of these?

I agree it looks a little bent top to bottom middle

    Samsung's description is:
    Overwhelm your senses
Odyssey Ark 55" large screen & 1000R curvature
Be immersed in lifelike images. The 55-inch screen delivers a picture that overwhelms your senses, creating an adrenaline-fueled experience superior to anything seen before. This is upgraded by 1000R curvature to wrap around your field of vision for maximum immersion.

    thanks for replying

will see what the repair man says on thursday, he could well take the tv away leaving me with nothing for how ever long it takes, dont have a spare too lol, but from my point of view the tv i dont think can be repaird that easy, i think it will have to be a replacement, i also think the screen maybe slightly bending which will do damage in the long tearm, when the samsung manager started getting funny with me saying about it might not be coverd under the warrenty, i then quoted the cunsumer law act of right to repair, she then changes her tone.

just want to know what way i need to fight if needed

    thansk again

OK, so your screen is not bent quite as much as Samsung's Odyssey Arc (which costs £2.5K)  :)

    Is it actually a fault?

I was sufficiently intrigued by your post to fetch a straight edge and check the diagonal of my 55" tv (Panasonic, not a Samsung).

To my mild surprise it is not completely flat, it is bowed slightly in the middle. We have never noticed or cared about  this in the 18 months since we bought it, the picture looks fine.

What does the specification for your set say?

I wonder whether the flatness of the screen is like the number of dead pixels, where the screen is only classed as 'faulty' if it exceeds a certain value?

You haven't answered this.  From your picture, it looks very obviously curved, and I'd be surprised if it was like that out of the box.  I'm sure you'd have noticed that curvature at some point in the last three months.  That suggests it's either warping in summer heat or as a result of a manufacturing error, possibly both.
