Great I hear you say, except I have not been a customer of them since 1999 when i moved into this house, I moved my Gas within the first couple of months (Electricity was with someone else).
I gave them a call and spoke to a lovely lady who said as your account starts 911 I need to put you through to someone else, she asked me if my email address was xxxx@gmail.com and i said yes but not sure how you know it as I didn't have an email address in 1999. She emailed me from her account and asked me to send back a pic of the letter which I did.
After being on hold for a while I speak to someone else who says can you send it back, I said can't I just rip it up if its not for me? Had to check with someone and eventually said yes you can just destroy it. I then ask him how it happened, how they had my email and my details still on their system. Couldn't tell me, said it doesn't matter if you destroy the cheque!
Anyone had similar ever? I can't use their online complaint form as I can't answer the required questions. Thought about using GDPR.
Anyone know of an email address, I have the woman's who i originally spoke to but doesn't seem fair to use it and she might just delete it.

Simplest is to put in a GDPR request asking for all information they hold on you but specifically including the email address they are using as that might sort this out.1

What an odd situation.
DSAR (Data Subject Access Request) could be the answer?
There's also the email address privacy@centrica.com for their data protection officer.1 -
Great ideas, thanks, its my email address they are using thats what is so weird because it didn't even exist in 1999!"You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "1

Could it then be a case of a re-cycled email address? One the previous BG customer had but lost which you now have?

I wonder if this is a scam. They send you a cheque, hoping you'll deposit it into your bank account. Then they write to you saying it was a mistake and that you have to pay it back etc...
