My daughter received two cheques from BG both for £10. She just put them in the bank.

Having not been a customer of theirs for 25 years my conscience wouldn't let me, I'd be constantly worrying about it.  Particularly if its money someone else is owed.

Could it then be a case of a re-cycled email address? One the previous BG customer had but lost which you now have?
I've had it since Gmail was born in 2004, would never have been registered with them.

Did you use the number that was on the letter to call them?
There was no number on the letter so I googled BG.  The account no. on the letter begins 911, if you try to submit something on their website it doesn't have account number option of 911. when the woman saw the copy  I sent her she said I need to put you through to a specialist team

Homecare customer? Deemed account at some point after moving?
No nothing like that, just bought a house, BG were the gas supplier and I changed it a few months later.  Never been with them since, been lucky enough never to be with a failed supplier when they went under.

I've submitted my SAR so lets see what they say
