How similar are the flight times and when were the changes made, i.e. how long in between the early flight being moved to the afternoon slot and then another early one being set up?  Have you asked them to reinstate you onto the morning one?
They have only changed the outgoing flight. It was 07.30hrs, now 15.20hrs. they flight they added leaves at 06.50. Return flight remains the same return at 11.30hrs so lost a good day. I did ring and ask to be moved to the earlier flight but they said they could not do it as it was part of a package, which again, I don't understand as it woud only mean moving me to the earlier flight.
Quite disgusting behaviour on their part I agree. I would not let it go that easily.
I have written to Steve Heapy and also to rip off britain but as yet have had no reply from either one. I want to highlight this abhorent behaviour in every place I can in the hope that someone like Martin will take it up and persue it to stop it from happening. Holidays cost enough as it is without companies having the elegal right to carry on cheating people this way. Rules need to be put in place but it sems no one is interested.

But how long was it in between the 07:30 flight being moved to 15:20 (retaining the same flight number?) and then the 06:50 one being set up - days, weeks, months?  Not sure you actually have any contractual or regulatory right to be on the earlier flight, but it's certainly not unreasonable to pursue this, especially if there's a demonstrable difference in pricing.
I can't say when the new flight was put in place as I only know that when I booked it was the only flight that day. When I was informed that it had been moved, which was about 9 weeks prior to travel, I looked online to see that they had put another flight on. It was obvious why they had done it, profit, profit, profit. The flight I was now on was selling a great deal cheaper as they were raking it in via the new premium time flight. The new flight was selling for over £150 more per person than the afternoon one which I had been switched to. This practice needs to be stopped. Full transparency needs to be put in place as to why the change has been made. Yes, the same flight number was retained as they well know that it's their get out of jail free card.
  • Not the same I am sure but I booked Virgin flights at the very beginning of the year and was surprised that there was only one morning flight. However like many travelling to US we, and I suspect Virgin too realised that Thanksgiving is a week late this year and the date booked was actually Thanksgiving Eve. Another flight appeared at an earlier time so arriving earlier in the day and therefore more convenient for those arriving. I asked if I could change expecting a fee but got a flat NO. The new flight is more expensive and I offered to pay but still no so they appear to have motives for these situations to which we are not privy.

Another example of a company applying their T&Cs to the letter.  Although flights are slightly different as you have a range of tickets on offer with varying flexibility options. The cheapest fares are usually non-transferrable, non-refundable etc

The OP needs to read the T&C of tour operators and airlines.  There will be something in there about changes to flight times, and how much the flight needs to be moved by before there is a right to a refund.  Flights are often listed a year or more in advance and assumptions made about availability of flight slots.  They have to have a degree of flexibility and, like it or not, an 8 hour change is within the T&C of most airlines.  If it was changed from a day flight to a night flights it could be different.
My sister-in-law is going on holiday on Saturday and the tour operator/airline has changed their flight time 4 times!
I'm not suggesting that I like the rules, but as long as the airlines abide by them there is little an individual can do.

If you ignore the flight numbers and look at the timetable they’ve effectively added an afternoon flight and moved everyone from the morning flight.  Disgusting behaviour.

Demand for seats dictating services run. Airlines are afterall a commercial operation.
  • We would all be hacked off by a change in flight times such as described - however if it's within Jet2's Ts&Cs there  is no recourse to challenging the legality of it IMO.

True, but it seems that in this instance they have added a later flight and moved existing customers to that flight.  Presumably they are now selling the 'new' morning flight at higher prices.  A few weeks ago I was checking out flights for next year.  To the destination I want, most are early or late afternoon.  On one day they have a mid morning flight which would be perfect timing for us and another in the late afternoon.  I didn't book the morning flight because I basically don't trust any airline not to pull that early flight, which has a considerable cost premium.

There's no way to know exactly how the mechanics of the changes worked, unless someone was monitoring the Jet2 and Jet2holidays website daily. It could be that due to flight scheduling the original flight was moved to later in the day. Then at some stage Jet2 decided to add another flight (better sales on this route than another?) that ended up being a morning departure. Or perhaps they were waiting on airport slot allocations, aircraft deliveries etc. Many variables, but it doesn't necessarily mean they sat down and took a decision to shaft a whole group of passengers deliberately, even if it feels that way.

I can see why the OP feels annoyed though, I would too. I still think this should and could be a very easy thing for the operator to fix at very little (zero) cost to them to maintain good will. Jet2Holidays operate entirely on Jet2 flights.... It's not rocket science.
