Giving a free hour is a marketing gimmick, people will often use more for an extended period anyway, any that they sell outside that window results in increased revenue.Lorian said:Someone remind me why we only get an hour?
I get to bank an hour's EV charging, at least the way it seems explained via the FAQ, plus free hot water, a bunch of cooking, dishwasher, 90c cleaning cycle on my washing machine and an hours gaming (1.4kWh just on that). It looks like I hit around 6kWh over my normal before accounting for the free hour of EV charging (which is showing as scheduled for later), so not too bad. Those with a heat pump, batteries and 7kW EV chargers (and potentially multiple EVs) should be able to get well into double figures, 22kWh being the theoretical maximum on single phase supply.QrizB said:As it is, by 1440 my HW tank was hot and I overdid the EV charging (should have paid more attention to the SOC) so my car's full too.0 -
A different emailed offer from Octopus today (possibly only for Go / IOG customers):A new way to help balance the grid?
With sublime weather set for much of the UK this week, we’ve got an extra special Sunday treat to kickstart those sunny adventures…
50% off electricity for your EV and home between 23:30-5:30 tonight.
Yup, that's right: we'll give you 50% off your already super-cheap off-peak rate tonight, as long as you...
- Plug your EV in this evening (Sunday 10th Aug) AND
- Don't plug in your EV tomorrow evening (Monday 11th Aug)
Give the summer wardrobe a wash, get the wheels charged, or set the dishwasher to task after a spontaneous BBQ. Tick off the list tonight and save while you’re at it.

I got the same, I guess they can see estimated generation and see there will be more of a excess tonight than tomorrow night, likely wind related.QrizB said:A different emailed offer from Octopus today (possibly only for Go / IOG customers):A new way to help balance the grid? With sublime weather set for much of the UK this week, we’ve got an extra special Sunday treat to kickstart those sunny adventures…
