Received an email yesterday. They are changing the free energy for customers on intelligent tariffs to include all electricity used during the hour rather than just the electricity to charge the car.

Looks like they got a lot of negative feedback

Now all we need are some actual sessions to use

Here’s an excerpt from my email

Since restarting our free electricity sessions for the summer, we know some Intelligent tariff customers aren’t 100% happy with the scheme – particularly those with multiple different smart products (like an EV and a battery).

We heard you, and we’re changing things up for customers on Intelligent Octopus Go and Intelligent Octopus Flux.

You’ll still get your hour of free Intelligent charging, same as before. But from the next session on, we’ll make any extra household power free as well.

Thanks for the heads up. I’d assumed there would be some email or other notification but guess not. I have checked to accept notifications but not received any (yet) - perhaps that comes nearer the start time?
Anyway, just looked on the app and it says I’m in. I wonder how they calculate my ‘normal’ use when I’ve only had smart readings for 10 days ?
I’m now planning to use the washing machine and dishwasher tomorrow afternoon. Are these events ever longer than an hour so could wash and dry?

They are sending emails. I got one but for me the price will be negative then and for most of the day, so I didn't really need to be prioritised on the email list.

Email from Pete telling me there's a free electricity session tomorrow (Saturday 9th of August) from 1400-1500.
I should have a thirsty EV and a cold HW tank by then, so bring it on!

I’ve  just got my email too.

I know it’s too late for this week, but if the sessions are going to always be mid afternoon I need to reduce my normal use away from this time.
I’ve just reset my regular hot water schedule to the early morning Cosy cheap slot between 4am & 7am - but with it paused tomorrow to make use of the ‘free’ period instead.

My immersion is on a ZigBee switch so I can adjust the timings from my phone anywhere there's mobile data or public WiFi.
The EV is a bit trickier as it keeps being disconnected and driven around 😄

You need to connect a ZigBee device to whoever is doing that :)
