How much for a new wall socket ?

We need a new socket in our living room - what are we likely to be charged ?
its about 10 feet from the nearest socket and is floor level.
The skirting boards are well fixed (house built1947)

Suspended timber floor, or solid concrete ?
Would you be happy with surface mounted trunking & socket ?

A socket-outlet cannot be mounted on the wall at "floor level".

One could quite literally install one on one's floor.
  • How much is this going to cost us?

    Hello OP

The materials are minimal*, the question is labour, as above if you have the connecting cable surface mounted it will be quicker (thus cheaper) then having it hidden.

Best bet is to ask friends/family for recommended electricians and get a few quotes.

*A back box is £1-2, a 2 plug white plastic socket face is £4 and 10m of 2.5mm twin and earth cable is £10, no doubt the electrician will pay less than this (or maybe the same for a bit better quality than the likes of what Toolstation sell to the public).

how long is a piece of string
    - labour rates vary around the country
    - materials quality vary
    - there will be some variation in how electricians design the job

get a few quotes and then post back here to ask if they look "about right"
