If buyers don't read auctions properly who are we to point out that they are TSFE? Someone as experienced as that should know better.

I know we both stand either side of this fence, but as this is a Money Saving site, I don't like to see people being ripped off.
Yes you have a valid point, but if I can't understand why some people do what they do as in this case, questions have to be asked. I would just like to know more about the mad world out there. ;)

I would have seen it as a rip off and agreed with you if it was listed as a console etc without any mention of the reservation number. As it was clearly listed as reservation number only that was valid till close of business that day then I fail to see the buyer has been ripped off.

But like you say, we stand either side of this particular fence and I respect your opinion ;)

If the seller listed it hoping someone would not notice it was for a reservation number and think it was a console, then the intention to scam someone was there. If the seller intended to scam someone then it was a scam regardless of whether the buyer should have had the sense to spot it or not.

If you list something that nobody would ever pay for, but do it hoping they will miss read the description and buy it thinking it is something else then this is wrong.

What bugs me is the seller has a feed back of 100% positive 288, not even one neutral, so why did they pull a stunt like this?

Is it possible they did it for a laugh just to see if some fool bidded on it and it got out of hand?

I remember one of the first auctions I saw on ebay was for a second hand jiffy bag, used only once.

The postage was £5 and someone had bid 20p for it.

So the seller was hoping that a buyer missed the great big letters that said "reservation number" and "reserved for collection"? Come off it.

Why not, if a user searched for "NINTENDO DS LITE" some of them may assume that the results it produced were for NINTENDO DS LITE for sale. They may then only look at the price and postage costs and not really read the description.

I've just done it and it came up with 1959 items in the Nintendo DS section alone. There must come a time when you have read so many descriptions that they all begin to sound the same and you stop taking notice of them and just check the price and postage.

I got conned by my landlord in June with just such a trick, so I know how easy it it.
