Amazon free delivery on orders over £35 - 17 days actual delivery.

Amazon can not explain why the delivery date for my order is 17 days from ordering. It seems the delivery dates are a mystery no one in Amazon knows the answer to.

I have now cancelled the order and reordered the items. This time I have a delivery date of 06 August. which is more than reasonable for free delivery. One of the items has increased by £2 which is a slight niggle that I can live with.

My reorder delivery date was 06 August and it has now changed to today, 04 August. I still don't know why the original order date was 15 August and Amazon can't tell me. I never experienced this problem before and from your replies no other MSE member has either.

I tend to avoid purchasing from Amazon as they clearly want everyone to subscribe to prime and I find that I have to pay attention to their "click" or "uncheck" options so that I don't inadvertently sign up which has happened in the past!

It does concern me that people's "go to" shopping outlets are either Amazon or eBay!

So many independent shops now offer free postage and should be given a chance to compete with these tax evading giants - it just requires a little googling and scrolling down past the sponsored links that the likes of Amazon pay for!

 Also, B&Q sell 2kg bags of bicarb of soda with delivery 2 to 5 days. Even Ocado do 500g bags so tag four of them onto a food shop.

There are always other options if you look for them...

I wanted to know if others experienced similar long delivery dates on free delivery over £35 offers or was it just me. Turns out it was likely an Amazon anomaly as when I placed the order again, the delivery date was 06 August now reduced to 04 August.

My 2kg of bicarb cost me £6.48, and was ordered with other items for free delivery.
It is more expensive in B&Q and their delivery charge is £6
I don't shop with Ocado because I rarely buy my food and groceries online. I prefer to see what I'm buying and check quality and dates on perishables. I see they are cheaper then B&Q for bicarb but you have to spend £60 to get free delivery.  
Savers offer the best price but they don't always have the stock in store and delivery is £4.00. It is not near me.

I always look at the total and confirm what it includes; I typically wait to batch things to get free shipping, but it often defaults some items to paid delivery.

That said, it's not peculiar to Amazon: I went for a spare pair of glasses at Boots opticians during the week and when I went to pay the total was different; when I pointed it out, the assistant said it was for the warranty - they'd snuck on an extended warranty, but I caught them and had them remove it.

Back to Amazon: I always cross-check prices before buying; they're frequently not the cheapest and often the same item is cheaper on eBay,
