Here are the closest pics I have to the new doorway lintel. The bricks above it had already been laid.

Whys the door sitting so far forward?
Thought it should be set behind brickwork

This is what was above the window which was taken away to make way for the door. The door was moved a foot to the left of where the window was.

Clearly in this photo the existing lintel didn't extend far enough to cover the new doorway position

These are the only pictures I have of the plasterboard. Not sure if you can tell if they are insulated from these pics?

The plasterboard is just standard plasterboard

Is this the lintel? I assumed this was a gap where the lintel was going to go.

There appears to be some kind of extension piece added to the existing lintel.

Yes, because they moved the doorway to the left of where the window was. So they've either moved the lintel across or they've put a new lintel in.

Also, how would I tell if the lintel is the right size/strength?

Then I don't think insulation was used. And that may be an issue for Building Control as they asked about it.

It's likely they've moved the lintel over. If the window was the same width as the door then the lintel should be adequate. The tray should've been extended though. The jambs have been returned in brickwork instead of AAC blockwork, and I can't see a vertical DPC in there. Not sure if Building Control would like that.
Can't see any sign of insulation in the original cavity. If there isn't any the new work doesn't need it.

Cheers for that. The reason I didn't share those pics before was because I didn't know that was a lintel. I thought a lintel would go above that.

What does your technical stuff mean to someone who knows nothing about this?
Is it a sound job? Will it crack or fall down? Is there anything to be concerned about (other than Building Control passing it)? And if Building Control aren't happy then what happens then?

Now that I know that's the lintel I have sent all these pics to Building Control and will let you know what they say.

Good to know about the insulation. In the photos I have of the walls which are broken into I can't see any insulation. There just seems to be a gap between the grey breeze blocks and the red outer blocks. So perhaps I can mention that to Building Control too.

And would it need a bigger lintel than the one which was above the window? This has been mentioned to me by a couple of people.
