No Ball Games ..Where Do I Stand...Please

Wasnt sure what heading to put this under.
I am with Calderdale Council.I am 66 and recently purchased outright a property that sits with a square in front of it.It is a concrete square...and it is a shared square with three other properties.
I am pretty sure that the three properties I share with are all benefit claimants which means that the others don't actually own the land.
My problem is....that one of the houses has a family with a single Mother with six children and none of the Fathers are present in the property. Some of the Male children are young Adults...its hard to be specific about their age.
They like to play football with a heavy leather Football with frequently rattles against my door and windows.Recently they have started throwing the ball up onto my roof where it could easily dislodge tiles...at a real expense to me.
I have tried to reason with the Mother.....but she is weak with the children and not interested.
What options do I have please??I have thought of buying some No Ball Games signs but fear they would be of little use given the Mothers attitude.
Furthermore I have spotted the young adults smoking dope in the Garden.
I have invested in renovating the house and this is spoiling how I feel about the move I have made .
Thanks in Advance

Do you mean that if you claim benefits you can't own a property?6 -
Friends have told me that they are renting....its not as much an issue as the inconvenience they are causing ??Pollycat said:

The would be of no use because they have no legal bearing.Mustbeananswer?? said:Wasnt sure what heading to put this under.

Ask them if you can play.
You can go in goals.7 -
What has being on benefits go to do with it?
In a previous house my next door neighbour's children kicked their football against the garage door for hours at a time.
They were home owners

Annoying isnt it.......mine isnt a garage door ......its a pvc one (expensive). Also my roof is very high...if they knock a tile and brake or displace it I will need scaffoldingsheramber said:What has being on benefits go to do with it?

I am entirely unclear what relevance their source of income, residential status, whereabouts of a father, marital status of the mother, the number of children and the "possible adult / not entirely specific ages" of some of the male children (do girls not play football round your way, or are they weaker at kicking the ball?) has to do with playing football on the square? If you could possibly explain the relevance of these things, then it would be really helpful.
I agree that footballs hitting things can be annoying. But it is their square as well. I may be off the mark here, but I suspect that the escalation of the problem might just have something to do with what might come across as a pretty poor attitude towards people you think you are better than? Perhaps if you tried a more positive approach?
PS - my garage door is very expensive.
PPS - if you have a very high roof and they can actually throw a heavy leather football that high, perhaps you could refer them to the English football team, or possibly the basketball team? Both are in need of great players.

All of the extra bits were to paint a clearer picture. For instance if there was an Male Adult present I could reason with him about the behaviour of the children. You make some good pointrs ...however....I'm pretty sure after a few days of enduring the inconvenience you might think differently???LinLui said:I am entirely unclear what relevance their source of income, residential status, whereabouts of a father, marital status of the mother, the number of children and the "possible adult / not entirely specific ages" of some of the male children (do girls not play football round your way, or are they weaker at kicking the ball?) has to do with playing football on the square? Been there, done that so no, I wouldn't think differently, although in my case they owned the house, both parents were there, and they were not claiming benefits (or at least, they were working). In other words, there is no clearer picture of them painted, although I am certainly getting one of you. Shocked to discover that Male Adults are reasonable. I totally get it now - women are not reasonable and men are (provided they are adults). Even more shocked to find that in 2024 young people smoke dope in their garden. And by the way, just in case you think I'm a feckless single mother of 6 claiming benefits and in social housing - I am older than you, widowed, own my own home and don't judge people based on prejudices and assumptions.Mustbeananswer?? said:

But you are certainly very unlucky in your neighbours. Only three of them, and there's this family, the drunk whose boyfriend kicks in her door, and ???? What's the third one like?6 -
If you believe that they are social housing tenant's. Then take it up with the social housing body.
But just because someone is on benefits Does not mean that they are not house owners.
Do you actually own any part of the square in front of your house? Was it clearly marked as such on the deeds etc?
