  • Thank you @elsiepac for the thread.
I am new to this challenge so I am going to start off with a liberal budget of £200 for the month for 2 adults.

Hi, I'm back in for this month for a total of

    £250.

I'm having a go at switching round my shopping style from doing 2-3 big deliveries a month to just buying the things I need as and when I need them. I've spent a round £21.00 so far on fruit, veg, hummus, herbs and kitchen roll.

    £21/£250
This was a game changer for me, but I now know I can resist everything except temptation so sticking to my list is a challenge. I do one big shop and then just top up shops. Worth over £100 a month in unspent grocery money here. I also have eggs and milk delivered, which keeps it down, despite the milk being double the price

  • Just a couple of things to report.

Walked down to our local A and bought some treacle £1.75 ( making some Parkin for next week's picnic)
And suet which I haven't bought for about two years, shocked at the price of £2.70.
Aim to make a steak and kidney pudding in the slow cooker later this month.

    Total so far now £114.59/£300

    Have a good day all

  • Today's update.
Spent £46.39 in total and bought a take away which we don't do that often but lasted us two days, cupboard items that will at least last us a while which includes oil, herbs and spices and flour and top ups of bread, milk and yogurt.

£12.6 spent on flatbreads, houmous, diet fanta, olives and tomatoes for office lunches. That covered yesterday and today and I just need to buy some more flatbreads for Monday. I may even have olives over if I cut up some carrots and cucumber to take in instead.
Pain au chocolat for yesterdays desk breakfast - otherwise I've managed to make toast and coffee before I go in. Also bought pasta, milk, eggs, veg sausage, potatoes, carrots, spinach, dark chocolate and stout (those last three partly for the iron). Also a half bottle of red wine for the pasta dishes (which will be mostly drunk, but some used in the sauce).
That's £34.81 in total, but I should be OK apart from milk for a while. I have a fairly straightforward meal plan for the next week of pasta with pestos and cheese or tinned tomato / veg / red wine sauces,  potatoes with eggs and veg sausages, and perhaps a big pot of chickpea based green thai curry if I can cope with the idea of having two hob burners on at once.

  • Thanks @elsiepac for the new thread.

Can I please have £400 for august, thank you.

As usual this is for everything for 2 adults and 3 kids, cleaning and toiletries. Have upped the budget to account for extra ice creams and snacks for kids and also for the more expensive fruits etc. Have a shop coming tomorrow but the first spend will be a cucumber today.

Just the weekly milkman so far in August, and with garden veg and frozen meat (and raspberries in the garden), I am hopeful for August. 58.22% so far for the year.

  • quick question as a newbie to this thread before I go listing any spends etc; but do you just list your weekly shops/top up shops or do you include other purchases: ie work lunches or coffee bought on way to work?

Havent seen anyone mention those purchases so just wondered if anyone was including them?
Although I suppose technically coffee is not a grocery item......
