Must be valid for 3 months after date of exit.

So makes me wonder why so many reports of people being turned away by airlines state that 6 months is required.  Obviously either the airlines are getting it wrong or the reporters.

    No wonder people get confused.
Airlines get big fines for letting people board without the right time limits, so if the staff are in any doubt, they refuse boarding.

It might be if they don't have a return ticket booked, or an open return, then they can't prove their intended return date, but of course it has to be 90 days as that's the max stay without a VISA of some sort, so maybe in that case they require 6 months.

Six months remaining is required when boarding so that if you stay the 90 days you still have 3 months validity.

Thus meeting the “Must be valid for 3 months after date of exit.” rule.

Well that's the confusion I had about passport dates and renewal.
Probably not helped by the wrong information mixed with right.
    I think it's becoming a little clearer.

So passport expiring 7/7/25 I can book a holiday until about Christmas butI need to renew my passport if I go January +?
That sort of rings some bells from the past pre the EU (as opposed to CMarket) - but to be honest it was a darn sight easier 50yrs ago when all you needed was a European visa which was done locally. But it is what it is.

Thank you for your time and trouble. I have a whole document page to try and get it right.
The discussion shows why I've been confused and couldn't get my head around it :)

If your passport was issued 7/7/15 and expires 7/7/25 then you should be OK to book a trip that gets back before 7/4/25, however proof of the return booking would probably be required. Also check the airline's rules (or whatever transport you're using), it's possible they have different rules.

Thank you Zagfles, I had managed to get my head around that thought but if airlines are sniffy then it's probably best to take advantage of what should be a quiet time after Christmas for renewal.
It's going to cost me about £380 just to get to the local airport and 6yrs since I've travelled. I'm not going to take any chances!
