I bought a pair of trainers £34.99 at sports direct shop 2 months ago, I've walked about 30 miles on pavements. the tip is detaching from glue on one of the shoes , I have the receipt, normally I get a year out of them, usually the sole wears through.
I'm going to shop on Monday for repair or replace, can I wear them going to shop or do they need to be not using them when I go to shop.

how do I construct a defence where I will win at the shop

As you are saying they are faulty I wouldn’t wear them to the shop, it will make the argument they should be replaced a lot more difficult.

I'm more worried they will hit me with wear and tear guidelines and say sorry, I have to reply they aren't fit for purpose, I'm not stating they have a manufacturing fault, but simply they haven't performed as required in the miles I've covered.

I would be carrying them in the original box if possible or a SD bag or whatever.  And simply say "look, I bought these 2 months back and they are falling apart already".  Don't volunteer how much you wear them, how far you walk, if you use them for work or simply for getting about.  Let them do the talking and respond to their questions.

Frankly even with hard use I wouldn't expect something to fall apart that quickly.  That they have suggests they were faulty.

yes brie, but they may say oh we have to send them to manufacturers to check if they have a production fault.
normally I'm good at winning arguments when I know the law is on my side, but sports direct and a 18 yr old shop assistant being unhelpful is my worry or a supervisor that has been told by head office to fob off customer with wear and tear policy.
I mean they are made in china junk, they are not hand stitched made in England brogues

I usually buy really cheap trainers, as I don't go to gym,jog or run, play football , tennis etc, I just walk in them and usually get a year out of them, I was upsold by an assistant to pay more for kappa ones, hoping they would last even longer as the soles are very chunky , the soles are only slightly worn through

They might say anything but until you take them in you won't know.  Best to charge forward and see if you get a good result.  If you don't get what you want then you need to decide whether you let them send them off or you try to mend them with "shoe gu" or whatever the latest footwear adhesive is.

or I go back to paying £45 for karrimor walking shoes that they sell. I've bought them in the past and last ages, but they are heavy and clunky when walking about town etc  great in mud, rain, rocky paths , but I love light weight training shoes, can walk very fast in them and very comfy

these faulty ones are the only trainers I own and need them for work tbh

I remember the sales assistant saying you could pay £130 for nice jogging shoes, I said they probably cost £10 to manufacture and they are all made in china junk lol

my plan will be to go in around 4pm when it's quiet , I will have to hold back my urges to act like victor meldrew

What make are they if not Karrimor?

(My wife has two pairs of black slazenger training shoes from SD that cost about £35 per pair I think.  She loves them and gets a lot of walking wear out of them.  Very comfortable, very lightweight)

The Consumer Rights Act 2015 (legislation.gov.uk) says that if goods become faulty within 6 months of purchase then they are deemed to have been faulty when you bought them unless the seller can prove otherwise.  See s19(14) and (15).

I've never had any problems dealing instore* with SD but many people on here complain about their customer services and find some of their staff a bit "difficult".  Good luck...

*In fact I've always found their staff instore to be very good.

they are kappa trainers, used to buy the slazenger ones for between £20 and £25 cos they have vinyl upper and kept out rain, but the sole does wear out in a year, but the glue holds strong

like I said I'd rather mention they aren't fit for purpose, than say they were made with a defect, cos surely the defective glue would show up very quickly, even inside the box, before they were even ever sold or worn all the way in the weeks in the boat from china lol

my defence is they are just poorly made shoes and not fit for purpose
