or I go back to paying £45 for karrimor walking shoes that they sell. I've bought them in the past and last ages, but they are heavy and clunky when walking about town etc  great in mud, rain, rocky paths , but I love light weight training shoes, can walk very fast in them and very comfy

these faulty ones are the only trainers I own and need them for work tbh

I remember the sales assistant saying you could pay £130 for nice jogging shoes, I said they probably cost £10 to manufacture and they are all made in china junk lol

my plan will be to go in around 4pm when it's quiet , I will have to hold back my urges to act like victor meldrew
Also China is a big place, with cheap goods being manufactured as well as high end goods. Just because something is manufactured in China does not make it 'china junk'.
Yes, it's a rather odd obsession the OP seems to have! Everything is made in China, probably including the device you're using to read this.

... like I said I'd rather mention they aren't fit for purpose, than say they were made with a defect, cos surely the defective glue would show up very quickly, even inside the box, before they were even ever sold or worn all the way in the weeks in the boat from china lol

my defence is they are just poorly made shoes and not fit for purpose
It doesn't matter if you want to argue they're faulty, or not fit for purpose, or not as described, or not of reasonable durability etc.  The law refers to an item as "not conforming to contract" and I simply referred to the goods as being "faulty" as shorthand for the overly legalistic "not conforming to contract".

As others have said, just go into SD and tell them that they shouldn't be falling apart after just two months.  You can quote to them the law I linked to earlier - ie the law presumes that any "fault" appearing within 6 months of purchase was present at purchase and entitles you to a repair or a replacement.

Surely wearing them to the shop is a bad idea, to put it politely.  What if they say they need to return them to the manufacturer for their opinion.  Are you going to walk home barefoot, or at best just wearing socks.

I would ditch the attitude before you go in. Remember you catch more flies with honey then you do vinegar.

100% agree with this. Most of these companies now have people who deal with after sales issues (such as returns). I don’t think they would be much of an issue (assuming proof of purchase etc) but I also think it’s fair to allow the retailer to inspect your return. OP would you be okay standing in your socks whilst they inspected the product?

Additionally - no one wants to handle freshly sweated in shoes. I would hope you have more than one pair of shoes, and I think respect goes both ways.

Very true.  I have a friend who has friends in China.  She has brought back some beautiful things for me including 2 bamboo book markers which I use as Christmas decorations.  I’ve had loads of comments about them including “where did you get them?”

I gave them a call today to explain the fault, the guy said bring them in and I can choose another pair up to that value. He said he will send the shoes to the manufacturer to see the fault.

he said they are having many returns at the moment cos of glue faults on the sole and potentially the manufacturer have having glue issues
so seems mines isn't the first glue and some problem.

I let your know what happens this afternoon.

Good to hear about SD resolving it promptly, because they have a poor reputation for customer service.
