Car insurance - moving house

Hi all

I am moving house at the same time as needing to renew my car insurance. I am moving 10 minutes down the road, to a similar, if anything nicer area. I'm fully aware that insurance varies by postcode, so I was expecting some difference, but I am being quoted on comparison websites a 60% hike in premium.
From googling the post code I am moving into has a similar insurance risk category so I am struggling to get my head around why the price is going up 60%.

Is anyone aware of any other factors which might impact quotes in the short term - for example if I haven't yet registered my car or driving licence to a new address could that the impact quote?

Thanks
Joe

possible that the insurance has just gone up  anyway - have you tried checking what the quote would be if you were staying at the same address?

some years back I moved house , only a few streets but to a "better road" with driveways and garages whereas it had been on street parking only  before - the insurance cost stayed exactly the same

  • This was with me toggling back and forth via addresses on a comparison website, so all others things equal.

I think something must be up so may try a short term insurance to see if it levels out in a couple weeks.

This doesn’t seem like the best course of action.

If the only change between quotes is the address it’s unlikely to change significantly.
Remember what you think is a desirable address is not the same as the insurers address ratings.

If you buy short term insurance and the price doesn’t come down.  What is your plan then

Doing this can trigger anti fraud measures and put the price up significantly.

My daughter did this between our house and boyfriends house and they threatened to cancel unless she provided a council tax bill or other proof to show where she was actually living.

It's possible that the 'better area' has a higher incidence of car thefts.

Agreed, could be more Range Rovers and similar in the area you’re moving to and they’re apparently top of the hit list these days

I tend to agree with the underwriting logic.

If I was a thief I’m going to the ‘nice’ up market areas
