EDF smart meter nagging

Anyone on here with EDF and not got a 'smart' meter, but moved to a tariff requiring one? How much nagging do they do, and what is the end result if one continues to resist?

resistance is futile.  And frankly why bother?  it saves you all sorts of fuss if they can do all the work.  Obviously if you don't have a smart meter and need to provide readings regularly and they promise to get a smart one installed and take forever, well, that's their problem not yours.

myself, I assumed there was no smart meter as nothing was being read unless I did the work and then 2 years later the smart meter started to work, so lovely.  Changed provider and no problem, meter worked.  Couple of years later I changed again and no smart meter apparently.  Well, I'll read it every 2 - 3 months as it makes no difference as I'm on a fixed tariff.  If they get fussy they can come and sort it out.

Read the small print of your supply contract that you agreed to. A breach of terms and conditions will be more than adequately covered. They'll be prepared for those who think they can pull a stunt.

I haven't moved. I'm currently on the variable tariff. I was just wondering.

Don't have one. I've not signed anything.

EON Next are pushing them too.
Been told by my solicitor I can't change anything in my house until probate has been granted

Apparently, Scottish Power (not) smart meters are showing cost in £s but you've got to add the 5% VAT yourself

They can change their meter if they need to.

They won't, because they have better things to do, but you or probate can't stop them.

No - Scottish Power in home displays have the tariff pre-vat as their standard setting.

The smart meters show units or cubic meters, as always.

Which tariff are you referring to with EDF, EON, or Scottish Power?  Most likely they'll either not let you onto the tariff without a smart meter, or bill everything at SVR until you have one.

What's your issue with smart meters anyway?

I'm a refusenik still on my trusty old meter on the standard variable E7 tariff. I ignore the incessant emails and login banners that warn of imminent armaggedon if I don't book my free smart meter installation. My trusty old meter is working perfectly well and I submit monthly manual readings, ensuring my bills are always accurate given I'm on their whole bill direct debit.

I'm certain that EDF and all the other energy suppliers will eventually impose smart meters on the remaining refuseniks once takeoff reaches critical mass or the radio network used by the old meters is switched off - whichever comes first. In my case I plan to move house in the future and so it is stastically likely that my new home will already have one.

"Reistance is futile" as stated in a previous post to the thread. Prepare to be assimilated.

Im on fixed EDF and got all the smart meter waffle. I don't need a smart meter and see no purpose in one. With some clever add blocking I dont get any pop ups on their website and all emails from them about smart meters get auto deleted as do any texts/notifications. One excellent result of this is that if they say I've breached Tcs of my tariff so putting me on the the SVR then please go ahead.. its cheaper than my fixed and will be still be after the next cap change  :)

There should be a sticky post on this board stating this clearly, since it keeps coming back and back.

Feel free to ignore offers to install a smart meter, however good luck protesting once your meter is beyond its certification date. That's when you've got no choice.

How do you know their meter is working perfectly well and not over/under reading?
