Trets I loved death valley, only a day trip though and a while ago, but i have 2 lasting memories and they are the "sand dunes" and the "salt flats" which are the lowest point below sea level in the western hemisphere.

Yosemite is my fav place in that part of the world, we had two nights in the lodge at the base of yosemite falls "AWESOME" personally speaking a day isnt enough for yosemite.

I know others rave about SF but after the Cable cars ,Alcatraz, ,the smelly sea lions at pier 39 the Bridge and golden gate park which were all good I wouldnt be in a hurry to revisit.

come on flesh it out a bit! - are you really going straight from LA to SF in a day? missing out all the great places along HW1
    are you driving up?

SF - stay north of Market Street!

Yosemite - how fit are you all ? Our favourite hike is up past Nevada Falls and onto Half dome - Its a full dayer though!

At least drive through Sequoia on the way to Death Valley - the famous trees are easy to get to.
  • Thanks for everyone's advice over the last few months. We have booked Excalibur 1 week from 14th March - wow am I excited. Friend is getting married at the Venetian and staying there, some are staying at Circus Circus, Treasure Island and the Palazzo so I guess we will be able to see the differences. The rate I got for 7 nights for A Tower room with strip view and wide screen tv was USD1148 which we thought wasn't too bad. Still have the option to keep looking as booked on a refundable deposit basis. See you all there!!

Hi - glad to hear someone got what they thought they had paid for from them! ;)
I must just be unlucky then and for reference I flew out on a Sunday.
Hope my post didnt mislead/panick anyone BUT forewarned is forearmed as they say! Doesnt hurt to check does it?

Ferf - thanks for the corroboration - I wish someone had warned me pre-flight. :D

Majority are direct, just depends on their numbers and whether it makes financial sense to combine. Of the three departure airports, without doubt the popularity is going to be Manchester, Glasgow, Aldergrove so by the time the flights start up again I would expect Manchester to still be predominantly direct and them combining Glasgow/Belfast.

The stops at Glasgow were widely reported here in the 2007 thread. You were just unlucky in getting one of those.

:rotfl: :rotfl: same old story so much to do so little time . i have kind of left a day between LA and SF open for just such adventures in , what do you reccomend ? . i;m not read up that far yet. we will be hiring a 4x4 for entire holiday

definatly going to do Sequoia park ( we are staying here http://www.redwoodsinyosemite.com/ which is close by i believe) , but i'm not very fit for proper hiking :o ( too many crab legs at bellagio buffet :rotfl: :rotfl: ) .i have been told by my Thearpist to do a few things on spec and not plan everything down to last detail like i usually do , so leaving rest of Yosemite open till we get there .

It's further than you might think from Yosemite to Sequoia and liable to take 3-3.5 hours so a trip there and back takes up almost your full day.

As for things to do between La and SF, I'd be playing golf at one of the courses around 17 mile drive! As long as you are breaking the drive up you'll get a lot of info on things to do an/or see.

MGM offer with dates to end of April from $79/night with a $25 activity credit + 2 round trip shuttle passes (though assume you would have to take advantage of these from Terminal 1 based on the info provided so if you are flying into T2 would have to get over to T1 first which may not be worth it)...also 2-for-1 spa pass.

What a range of hotels! Very interesting for one person to have the opportunity to see so many hotels on one trip. Hope you will report back what you find!
