@badger09 - just a heads up - wild garlic spreads like mad ....

    for example

Thanks, I wouldn’t want that much, but have a fairly well contained area in mind. If it started invading his precious lawn, husband would soon have it under control.

Have you considered the seeds purchased might need a winter outdoors before doing their thing? I can't say for sure without looking up their dormancy, but I'm sure you can do that. :)
I know some other baby alliums I have took some time, and then they vanished in mid-summer to stay as a small 'pip,' popping up again in spring.
I hadn’t considered it might take that long to germinate. I’ll leave the rest of the seeds where they are. I was just a bit puzzled by what did come up as I certainly hadn’t planted them.

The 2nd is definitely not basil, sickly or otherwise😉. There’s no discernible smell to it m, and I’m growing basil in my greenhouse. From a new packet of seed, and they’ve never been anywhere near each other.

    Appreciate everyone’s contributions.

We got on really well with our buyers and we went through a lot of stress together with our moves, but I think I’ve left it too late. They moved in on 8 Jan 21. I’d love to see what they’ve done with it though.
No, you really don't want to know. My old neighbours tell me that the new people in my old house have ripped out the entire mature garden, all the fruit trees and bushes, roses, unusual and rare plants, vegetable raised beds and they have turfed the lot for their dogs. I'm never going down that road ever again.

Like our kids, we only have our gardens on loan. Same goes for pets, but even more so!

It may be right on this occasion - agree it doesn't seem to have opposite leaves, on closer examination. I've never grown amaranth so not v familiar with it; whereas self heal pops up everywhere in my garden, and seemed a more likely volunteer, (unless the OP has been growing amaranth previously), and it does (superficially!) look like that when growing vigorously in seed beds...

OP here. No, I haven’t been growing amaranth, at least, not consciously. The 2 pictured plants just grew in the trough of fresh compost where I’d planted wild garlic seeds. I’ll leave them both for a while & see what develops. I’m growing herbs & some salad leaves so as long as they’re either edible or pretty, ideally both, they can stay.

My thoughts exactly😠. If I’m right, they’re both ‘edible weeds’ but I’m not risking that without confirmation.
Any plant is "edible" at least once. If it doesn't taste nice, or turns out to be poisonous, you won't be eating it again.
