Hi folks,

I'm in need of some information and I'm hoping the hive mind here might be able to help.

I've recently taken over the management of my mother's bank accounts, having registered an LPA. Her HSBC current account is receiving periodic credits that I don't recognise.

Either £57.27 or £200.12. The lower amount is, mostly, monthly then occasionally the higher amount followed by a missing month.

The sending account is a Lloyds account 30-00-02 00294859. HSBC tell me they can't give me any further information.

I'm working blind here. I have no historic paperwork that matches this, any recent paperwork is going to an address I can't access, my mother has lost capacity and I'll need to include this on her tax returns.

She's in receipt of a state pension but that's paid into a different account. She's in receipt of one private pension but that's a different transaction. I can't make head nor tail of the 57.27/200.12 amounts.

Does anyone have any bright ideas?

TIA,
Mands

What are the references that go with the payments? Private pension that you're unaware of seems a likely candidate, but another option could be DWP payments such as Attendance Allowance.
As an aside, why can't you access the address that paperwork may be going to?
Another aside, are you sure of the sending sortcode? 40-01-18 is a HSBC sortcode, not Lloyds.

Can you look back over historic statements online to see if and when those sums changed ?
An annual increase would suggest a pension or benefit of some description.
Are there no references provided with the transactions ?

No, that was absolutely not the sending sort code. OP edited to reflect that.

    Sending sortcode: 30-00-02, account 00294859.

No other UK benefits other than state pension.

Reference on the latest payment was AG38621822602E

I've only just got access to the accounts so I'm working back through historic statements. The sums have stayed static for the last 12 months.

Reference changes on each transaction, most recent AG38621822602E. All of the form AG38xxxxxxxxLetter

A savings bond paying out interest every month? An investment account paying out dividends and interest?

Not helpful for you, sorry, but I can confirm that HSBC statement can sometime be very parsimonious (if not outright void) of details for incoming payments. Querying HSBC customer service only resulted in what you heard, i.e. no further detail is available or can be disclosed.
I then redirected some of my payments to another bank account and it was day and night. The Credit Advices for payments coming from the same sources were full of details/references which made reconciliation much easier. Those details/references that HSBC cs  always denied existed..

Just an idea, send a 1p (or £1) transfer to the account the transfers are coming from with the reference "PLS CALL 07xxxxxxxxx". It's a long shot (especially if its being sent from a financial organisation, where no-one will be reviewing the account), but might be worth it?

It has the look of an OEIC/or similar div payment - one of the funds I hold used to pay the same amount each month except one when the payout was much higher.
