Money Moral Dilemma: Should my husband's friends help pay his parking fine?
Comments
-
Are they all liable for what happens when the car is parked? What if it was damaged or stolen? Should they chip in then as well?1
-
He probably shouldn’t ask , but it would be good if the passengers offered . However , I think that we all know that supermarket parking is not the place for leaving a car and going off for a walk0
-
In my experience, supermarkets having parking restrictions should be displaying clear signs detailing the restrictions and penalties. Surely at least one of the three should have spotted these signs! I think it's fair for the fine to be shared three ways. If your husband mentioned the fine to his friends, it would be very decent of them to contribute voluntarily, without having to be asked. My friends would have done so.0

In what way “should he get out if paying?” He was illegally parked at supermarket for,I assume several hours,he should pay for his parking. Then it depends on how hs friends view their friendship.
the only moral dilemma here is whether it’s okay to park in a car park associated with a business for an extended period thus preventing customers of that business from parking there.
this is a pet peeve with me. Our local M and S store has 6 spaces and it’s impossible to get a space. 1 spot is for disabled and yet to see a blue badge displayed. It’s inconsiderate to other customers, some like myself and elderly with mobility issues and unable to walk from nearest car park, it also has a knock on effect to the business who lose customers.
So in case of this story pay the fine and ask your friends to share cost. No moral dilemma .0 -
No. The driver must take responsibility for his own actions.0

If I knew the driver had been fined, I would offer to contribute, assuming the driver didn’t know the regulations. An above post is right, supermarkets have no power to “fine” you, only the police and the council can do that. On several occasions I have brazened it out, ignoring their threats of court action, and then their threats to my credit rating, and got away with it. I am more careful now, though, where I park!0

The only moral dilemma is that there is a scam operating in the car park making people think they have been fined, so much so that the government is looking at putting a stop to this.
By paying you are helping to bring more misery on others, and that is the real moral dilemma
Its not a fine, and nothing illegal has taken place

If he is unable to get the fine cancelled then yes they should split the cost between them all. I don’t see that this is a money moral dilemma I’m surprised that he, or his friends should question doing it.It was his car, but they all benefited from him parking it there and none of them paid attention to the time restriction.0

Given your husband was the driver ultimately it is his responsibility. I cannot believe that out of all three of them none of them realised there were time restrictions.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. I was going to post exactly the same as enthusiasticsaver.Out of several people none of them knew that there was a time restriction on a supermarket car park?I've seen signs in Morrisons, Tescos, Sainsburys and CoOp for over 6yrs. They are big and clear both centre and sides. Most allow 2-3hrs free parking. So they had left their car for more hours than this, one heck of a walk, and effectively taken the proverbial. It's a private car park belonging to a business, paid for and well maintained for their customers.I think the fine should be paid. I think he should let his friends know and hope they offer as they enjoyed the benefits. It won't be much between them.
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!
