I didn't know Dotty P's did larger sizes, most of these boutique-y places scare me with their ranges starting at 6 and 8 - I was never that size, I went straight from childrens into a 14!
I too, have gone off Evans. I can range 2 or 3 sizes there alone, and the quality ain't what it used to be. Like most here I'm tqo different sizes. Depending on the store 18-22 top and 18-20 bottom.
Sometimes they get some decent stuff on QVC and Ideal World - at least they tell you what size "Large" is meant to fit! I can't remember what make they were, but QVC do sell "proper" jeans, that is they come above your belly-button - not low rise. Easily returned, but postage ain't that cheap.
Sainsburys Tu is ok, though I'm not sure what their size range is or how well the clothes last. I got 2 size 20 tops which fit perfectly in last autumn's sale for a tenner.:wave:0 -
tu go up to a size 22 in quite a lot of their range
dotty p's is owned by the same people as evans so very similar clothes but cheaper.
i also hate evans tops - flabby arms on show, the too short t shirts and low rise jeans. i could go on......'We're not here for a long time, we're here for a good time0 -
Dotty P goes up to a 22, I used to get quite a lot of my clothes from there but I can't get into their size 22 tops anymore but usually get my black trousers from there as they fit great in a long length size 20. They are usually between £12 and £18.
I used to like Etam's plus range before they shut the stores down.0 -
Debenhams go a 'Gorgeous' range which I find is really nice. I think its only in larger stores as they have it in Croydon but not Bromley branch. Haver a look online too.
There were lots of reductions on it before Christmas.0 -
I have had some nice bigger size stuff from George at Asda but they can be very much fashion lead which like the OP said smock tops etc (not good). I have a great deal of trouble getting trousers the right length and my last ones came from George. I think their long has gone very long though. I had a pair of trousers and had to return them and get standard length and my jeans that I have just bought are being held up with a belt as they are that long, so what they have done I don't know but I am not complaining as it means I have jeans that fit for a change. Only bad thing, have been back to Asda on several occasions to get some more and they haven't had them in my size yet so I may be back to the dawing board!!If practice makes perfect, and nobody is perfect....................................
Why practice!:T0 -
Well I have just got back from a shopping trip to the Trafford Centre. I bought quite a few tops from BHS in their Amelie May range, some of it in the sale is really cheap, like under £7 for tops, a couple of the tops I got were under £4!:j
Also got a couple of tops from Debenhams in the Gorgeous range, they were doing an extra 10% off today as well so I was pleased there.
Got another top from Ann Harvey and some underwear from M&S.
I am a very happy bunny now, just need to get a couple of pairs of trousers but I can get those from most places. I didn't see any long skirts that I liked at a price I was willing to pay.
Had a quick look in Evans but didn't see much I liked so didn't get anything. There was one shirt I liked but at £25 it was the same price for one as for 3 of my Amelie May ones!
Before this thread I wouldn't have dreamed of looking in BHS or Debenhams so many thanks once again.
Lets keep this thread going so it helps many others like it has done for me.:T0 -

It would be gr8 to keeep this thread running for bargains that we find. Larger nsizes are often hard come buy, even in the specialist shops like evans, sale ranges tend to be at each side of the scale with not much in the midle.
HeatherPiggy Points (started 27/04/07) 2115
Quidco (started 27/04/07) £17.82
Comping Challenge £0/£180
May Grocery Challenge £108.76/£2200 -
Another couple of tips I have found.
If you're after a smart outfit, especially at sale time, check out Evans sections in department stores. They tend to be small, but selectively stock only the posher stuff, and so tend to have a better selection of that sort of thing, and therefore more reductions on that sort of thing. Only just found this out myself! Went into the Highstreet Evens and they had mostly rubbish summer stuff reduced - went into local House of Fraser Evans dept, they had lovely silk (£100) and other party dresses in tons of sizes, all half price which were still full price in the main store or gone completely!
BHS are pretty good for bigger bras - I think the range is called Voluptuous or Gorgeous (have just taken mine off to check the name but it doesn't say) and they are pretty and sexy and often reduced well in the sale (£7-10 tends to be what I pay).
But the old adage - make sure you're getting the right size is especially true when you have bigger bazookas! A good bra can do wonders for your overall shape.
If I have my other half with me (bless him) he used to pick out pretty lacy things - usually a size 34B or some such thing that wouldn't go around one of mine! Anyway, I now have him well-trained... he knows that if the cups don't look like they'd fit on his head, they won't fit around my boobs! :rotfl:0 -
I have bought from bonprix (don't forget quidco), the good thing is the lengths are longer in the bigger sizes. I am short but like to cover my michelin bits!!
Most of my clothes I get from ebay especially bras from ebay USA as i like goddess and glamorise bras and even with postage it works out cheaper than uk. Usa ebay have a good range of plus size sellers all selling new items.
Make sure you go on the measurements when you can't try on.0 -
