Security questions took some work. Unusual to have so few questions to choose from when you need 3 and then to keep failing because you haven't met some unknown criteria that was supposedly "above" was total guesswork. I now have 3 answers, none of which will be able to be recalled from memory.

  • Just received an email from Nationwide Building Society. They are reducing interest rates on some savings accounts from 1st November 2024.

In the email, they listed the accounts they I currently hold, all of which will have a 0.15% reduction from 1st November 2024.

"From 1 November 2024, the variable interest rates on some of our savings accounts will go down. This follows the decision by the Bank of England to reduce the base rate from 5.25% to 5.00%."

I can't find a PDF on their website to see what else is changing.
New rates can be found here: https://www.nationwidemediacentre.co.uk/news/nationwide-adjusts-savings-rates-following-bank-rate-decrease

Thanks for finding the link to the new rates :)

Might be worth including the 4.89% version of this account in the top accounts thread: https://www.sidekickmoney.com/savings

You can technically get up to 5.34% but quite a big "if" on that one, whereas the 4.89% version is basically available to everyone for 12 months.
For 5.34% one has to invest £1,000+ into a Sidekick investment portfolio.  That's a very good offer for those who doesn't mind a bit of risk.

Considering the recent pattern 4.89% can be at the top of EA ladder very soon.  I think I'm going to download the app and open this account before it goes NLA.  Thanks for posting the link

For sure it might be worth the extra 0.45% to open the £1k investment.  I've heard the fees they charge on investments are quite high though (not too sure on this though, haven't looked into what they are myself).  But yes, I think if someone only stuck £1k in an investment with them, but put a very high amount in the 5.34% savings account they'd now have access to, then that could definitely be worth the comparatively high fees on the investment side.
