No, they've now prevented closing and opening at the higher rate.

I've had notice that the interest rate on my Skipton MBS reduces on 17/1 to 3.30%. I'll be emptying it down to a £1 as it will be useful to debit card £500 monthly in and out to my Halifax Reward account.

I had similar but for me on the 13th - it's just the end of the initial 12-month 1.7% bonus interest.

Family Building Society also allow payments in by debit card. They have a Market Tracker Saver which will be paying 4.5% from the 1st Jan at least until 31st March as the rate is reviewed quarterly. Needs £500 left in the account and has a maximum of 20 withdrawals per calendar year for that rate though.

Hi Schiff, will Halifax honour £5 reward for £500 deposit via debit card into other savings accounts? Wondering if such deposits might not qualify as "retail purchases". Thank you.

They do for payments into NS&I accounts, so I'd assume they would for other financial institutions.
