I have received a "Notice of proposed allocation to the small claims track" dated 26 July 2024.

Given that it is still very much gobbledygook to me, would you mind telling me what I should put in the top boxes, please?

    Your questions are easily answered.

The first two boxes are quite straightforward - look at the similar boxes on your Claim Form.
    As for the third box...

    You are completing the form.
Are you completing the form on behalf of anyone?
    Are you 1st Claimant?
    Are you 2nd Claimant?
    Are you 3rd Claimant?
Indeed, are you any sort of Claimant?
    What are you left with?

    Ok. That's clearer.

    What about doing it online?
I just had a look at www.moneyclaim.gov.uk and it asks for credit card ref for paying court fees😳
Am I meant to pay at this stage, please?

All easily done online. No trees need be persecuted on your part. Simply download your own N180 DQ which is easily found using your preferred online search engine.

You are the only “defendant” so, figure out which number you are from the choices on the form. You can either leave the “in the” box blank or put “Civil National Business Centre”. A claim is always assigned to the defendants local county court. Again, a simple internet search will give you the information you need. “Claim number” is pretty obvious as you have a copy of the N1SDT form that alerted you to the claim and the claim number is on that in big bold letters/numbers.

Mediation is now compulsory and there is no choice about it.
The Small Claims Track is the correct track.
You want the claim heard in person. It is not suitable for determination on papers.
The hearing is automatically allocated to a court near you but you.

The signature can simply be your name typed. No need to physically sign it and the scan it. Just type your name.

The Newbies/FAQ explains all this and the form is sent to the CNBC and the claimant/solicitor as a PDF attachment in an email. All you have to do is put the CNBC email address and the claimant/solicitor email address in the addressee field and also your own email address in the CC field. The subject of the email should simply contain the claim number. The body of the email simply has to say “Please find attached the N180 DQ for claim number [claim number].

And also study the 12 steps in the defence template thread, plus the list of email addresses too, email the completed N180 too the DQ email address and CC the lawyers. ( Or claimant ) , so its email to both,  no paperwork, no posting, no online either, just email

The second post in the newbies sticky thread in announcements also has advice about filling in your DQ

Back from holiday to find an email stating that I am invited to a telephone mediation:

Your confidential telephone mediation appointment has been booked for the above date and time slot. This means that the mediator will call you between the times shown. Your appointment will last for around one hour from the point at which the mediator calls.

The mediator will call both parties separately – you will not talk directly to the other side. They will try to help you both come to an agreement before the case goes to court.

Where your mediation appointment is mandatory, If you do not attend the appointment, the judge will take this into consideration at any court hearing and may issue a penalty. This could include the judge automatically ruling in the other party’s favour or ordering you to pay for some or all the other party’s costs.

I did not expect to hear so soon, I did not expect this.
