Wanadoo Upgrade Fee Warning

Just a warning to anyone wanting to upgrade from a 512kb to a 1mb account.
They will charge you £20 for the privilege!
Fair enough. But they write it in small letters on the webpage. And at no point during me filling out the online form did they say this. Even when they told me that they would be charging me £27.99 a month did they mention the fee I would have to pay.
Hope this helps someone.

I was with wannadoo/Freeserve until a month ago having previously been with them for years. I was extremely cross about the way they treat their existing customers which was why I left.
I was paying £27.99 a month for their 512K service and wanted to upgrade but they were going to charge me £20 to do so even though new customers got the 1MB automatically. They did make it quite clear to me though that I would be charged the £20 and that this fee would not be waived in any circumstances.
Even when I phoned to cancel I thought I might get an offer out of them, but nothing, just a MAC number by email, no incentive to stay was offered.
I'm now with Virgin paying £17.99 a month and am extremely pleased I made the switch.

Yes I've been looking at other ISPs that do a better deal. Freeserve are not for heavy users.

I had no trouble seeing that you had to pay £20 to upgrade, it's quite clearly shown on the upgrade page http://www.wanadoo.co.uk/time/bbupgrade.htm
If you ask nicely, they'll reduce your monthly payment. Well, they did for me, anyway.0 -
I've just changed over to pipex, got fed-up with wanadoo, especially after they started to go on about the upgrade fee. I've been with them since year dot! So much for loyalty.0

Unfortunately we still have six months of our contract with them left so we are paying the extra to upgrade. They did advise me that they can't currently monitor the usage so I have downgraded the package to the £17.99 one and for 2MB connection speed I think that isn't bad. After the contract ends I will ensure I don't sign for an annual contract again.0

So did I, after 5 years they offered me nothing (apart from the £20 refunded) for me to stay with them which says sod all about their customer care, which is also appaling.
Now with "freenetname" @ £18pm with 4 free months at 2mb.
FREESERVE AND WANADOO are gettting some flack on here lately!!**BERTIE**Did you Know: It costs more than £325,000 a day to run the lifeboat service? (with no government funding) Please donate to the RNLI0 -
I don't know if you guys are just getting through to the wrong people but wanadoo are doing a lot to try and get me to stay, eg a free month, waiving the £20 upgrade... I'm using the free month to decide what to do.0

hi all
i had tough time with wanadoo when i shifted my house. they made n number of errors and took almost 2-3 months to transfer the broadband. everytime they had a new story to say and every customer service personnal had different reasons just to avoid.
finally i wrote a letter with all the conversation with the customer service personnals including there names and within days i recieved an applogy with a 3 months free subscription which ends this aug end.
PLEASE NOTE DOWN THE NAME OF THE CUSTOMER PERSONNEL AND THE BRIEF NOTE ON WHAT THEY SAID........BELIEVE ME IT HELPS A LOT. I HAD TOUGH TIME WHEN I SHIFTED MY HOUSE AND EVERYONE CHARGED ME PENALTY. BUT THANKSFULLY WITH A WRITTEN COMPLAINT WITH ALL THE DETAILS I GOT LOADS OF FREE SERVICE AND REFUNDS......HOPE THIS HELPS ......sale0 -
I have 6 months left to run on my 1mbs with wanadoo. Is it worth me paying the extra £20 to upgrade to the 2mbs at the same monthly cost.
Is there a way round paying this?£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4

After reading some posts on here and getting fed up with paying £27.99 to Wanadoo, I've just phoned them for my MAC code. Intending to move to Freenetname. Is anybody using them?
When I phoned Wandadoo they told me BT charged them £80 to upgrade the line, but they would waive the £20 if I stayed. Said no as I think that if they're prepared to do it.they should offer this immediately to existing customers, rather than waiting for them to threaten to cancel Awaiting MAC code now.0
