Carer Element/Premium added to ESA

I got through incredibly quick...turns out ESA are offsetting the Carers Premium they currently owe me of £45+ a week currently around £360+ and paying my ESA normally until I have 2 weeks of arrears and then the deductions and any additions will start from then on(which I suspected was happening). They were aware I was claiming CA.
EDIT: because he had a vulnerability marker on his file they agreed to speak to me.1 -
If he's in hospital for more than 28 days then you must report the changes to PIP and it will stop. The day he went in and comes home doesn't count. If PIP stops your carers allowance will also stop.
Once he reruns home you can then report the changes again and both with start back again. https://www.turn2us.org.uk/get-support/information-for-your-situation/hospital-and-benefits/benefits-that-stop-being-paid-if-you-go-into-hospital
Please note the linking days too, which means if he goes back in within 28 days then they are linked with the previous hospital stay.0 -
Glad you got an answer, but to stop people worrying, if they are going to do things that way, they should really send out an amended award letter - it would have saved you a lot of stress at a time you really don't need it.kkkklinky said:I got through incredibly quick...turns out ESA are offsetting the Carers Premium they currently owe me of £45+ a week currently around £360+ and paying my ESA normally until I have 2 weeks of arrears and then the deductions and any additions will start from then on(which I suspected was happening). Is your CA being paid weekly or 4 weekly? £81.90 a week or £327.60 per 4 weeks?
What payment(s) did you get from CA ?

But to me it does not sound correct, and I know ESA make lots of mistakes with CA 4 weekly recovery. The OPs explanation from ESA makes no sense at all. Up to OP to answer me here or in private, I do not mind.Danien said:OP has an answer, so now understands what is happening and why.0 -
I am on weekly CA, I have currently had 3 payments. My claim was from 20th May but I only started recieving CA from the 17th June to prevent an overpayment. I agree that the explanation I was provided makes zero sense especially since they couldn't provide a date when my ESA would change and others have said the same. I phoned CA yesterday and they are still waiting for a response from ESA regarding any backpay owed and that ESA wouldn't start deducting money or pay any premiums until they receive that response.xxxxxxxx said:

Oh? CA previously said they have received the return of the recovery calculation.kkkklinky said:I phoned CA yesterday and they are still waiting for a response from ESA regarding any backpay owed and that ESA wouldn't start deducting money or pay any premiums until they receive that response.
Think you need to phone CA again and ask if they have received the ESA response and if they have, how much has ESA taken? And ask why you had that letter from CA stating a full recovery had been taken?
Then phone ESA and ask for an explanation why CA has not rec'd the recovery, the ESA notes should show the CA has been added and how much the recovery is. What date has CA been applied to ESA from? You need to ask for a call back from ESA maintenance because the phone people don't know what is going on.
When did he go into hospital? And is there any news on an expected release date?0 -
The award letter I received is apparently the standard letter they send when they haven't had the calculation yet but have started CA payments.
No recovery was taken I was only paid CA from the 17th June(they didn't pay me for the previous month because I had ESA). ESA hasn't taken anything. No money whatsoever has been taken from me that's the point, I've had no deductions and no additions, no backdated premiums...nothing.
CA has said that ESA doesn't seem to have updated their systems to show that I'm getting CA, probably because they have forgot or just haven't done it yet. Looks like I'm ringing them again today but my partner is now at home so they can speak to him and hopefully get it resolved1 -
You're making things more confused here.xxxxxxxx said:

They have the notification from carers allowance.
Carers allowance don't 'receive' the recovery.
ESA are paying at full rate, instead of esa minus carer's allowance rate plus carer premium, paying the arrears weekly rather than in a lump sum.
It's not the way it used to be done, but the OP is getting the arrears back. I expect it's down to staffing.0
