Smart Meters
Our standard electricity meter has broken and our energy supplier is insisting on installing a smart meter which we do not want. Looking on the internet there are a few energy companies listed as 'do not insist on installing smart meters' yet after two lengthy phone calls I'm told that they will only let you use your standard meter if you switch to their company but will not replace a broken meter with a 'standard meter.' but it will be a smart meter. Is there anyone out there who

It might help if you can explain why you don't want a smart meter.
That being said, the reality is that you have very little say in the matter as the meter isn't yours.

The simple answer is that only smart meters are manufactured now so any new meter will be smart. It's a bit like demanding a new black and white TV, nobody makes them, it's old tech.

Get a smart meter installed and then switch to a company that doesn't use smart meters. They can do it with or without your permission and you do not get to say no.0 -
If you are set against the comms functionality, ask them to switch it off.
If you don't want them reading your meter daily - the default - under DAPF rules you certainly used to be able to ask to drop frequency to monthly.
And gain under the original DAPF you had to give permission for 1/2 hourly data.
