Hi,

Just wondering if anyone on here can advise on the following.

My young daughter has a 30day plan with Lebara which has 5gb data usage included.

Last week she has been away and had must have come up to the 5gb limit as she got a couple of text from Lebara saying she was approaching 5gb usage, then another saying something like it would cost 9p per MB, or she could by an addon for £3 for and extra 1gb.
(I'm not 100% sure exactly what is said as I don't have her phone to hand.

So yesterday my other half turned of my daughters 'mobile data' to prevent the possibility of racking up a big out of bundle bill.

My question is, if indeed my daughter has used up all her data, will she automatically start
to rack up a bill at 9p per mb? or will she just not be able to use data (as Lebara will stop internet access), until her monthly bundle renews? As would really like to avoid getting a bill for out of bundle usage.

FYI. on the Lebara website, her settings for 'Auto Top up' are turned OFF.

If anyone can shed any light on the above it would be much appreciated, as I can not find anything on the Lebara website that informs what happens when you use up all the data and if you just start to get charged, or the data just stops.

The default is that you get charged. There is usually an option to turn off data once the charges exceed a specified amount.

In theory so long as you don't have a credit balance and auto topup is off it shouldn't be possible to go over your allowance. If you do have a credit balance and your plan allows for payg data rates (lebara's new plans don't as I understand it) then you can manage excess usage by settings on the phone and probably through your lebara online account. Just be aware the phone may calculate data usage slightly differently.

Voyager, I am not sure I can see anywhere that you can put a spending cap on.
from the Lebara App or Website. My 'Auto top up' is set to £0 and is turned OFF,
so I am hoping that this is enough to prevent getting any out of bundle charges.

Savergrant, I have looked on my daughters phone, iPhone XR, and there does not seem
to be anywhere that you can stop data access once it hits a level.

The only option I can see, is  'Turn on Low Data Mode', which does not help my situation.
I personally have an Android phone myself so know I can stop data by using editing
the 'Data usage' setting and set a limit. But not sure if there are any other options on this
iPhone XR that actually does the same, I have looked everywhere but there does not seem
    to be a similar option.
    :/

@solorize you are correct, you can see how.much you've used in the current period (as Apple calls it) but not set a limit.

I did this last week with Lebara. They sent a warning text that my data was almost used up. When it was used up, I simply lost my connection to the internet. No extra charges.

Thanks @PHK and @Gloomendoom for you replies. I will await and see if I get charged when the next bill comes in. I have currently turned her Mobile Data off, just to be 100% sure.

From experience, if auto top up is off and you have not added any top ups then data just stops working

If you have zero credit and have not turned on auto top-up (which is turned off by default) then you won't be charged. Data will just stop working until you buy a new bundle or top up.

    I'm on Lebara BTW.

Will also confirm if there is no PAYG credit on the account and auto top up is off, data will simply stop working. Also a Lebara customer.

If you wish, you can renew the bundle early instead of paying the addon prices. Just go through the purchase process for an addon, and it will start from the day of purchase. From then on your "plan month" will run from that date.
