I always wonder when I read these sort of thread, what would happen if the lease/tenancy agreement said the freeholder or whoever had to pay the tenant x amount, but the freeholder etc chose not to.

Would the tenant accept it or kick up a fuss. I think I already know the answer.

It's crazy to me how many people sign legally binding documents to confrim they've read and agreed to the terms, but then play victim when they either breach or don't agree to a term.

Do the rescue not require proof that you allowed to have a cat on your rented property?  A reputable rescue should be safeguarding the animals future, not passing animals into a situation that might mean them having to move on again.

Our daughter just moved in to a rental flat with her boyfriend and their cat.  They knew the rules about no pets at all but they thought they would take a chance, well, they got away with it for a few hours until one of the neighbours told the LL that she saw them move in with a cat, the very next day they had to get rid of the cat, they are absolutely heartbroken but rules are rules and they knew that if they got caught, the cat would have to go.  lucky for them that a family member took the cat in.  If the LL says no pets, it means exactly that.

I must admit, when I saw the title of this thread, my mind went straight back to the Dr Seuss books.
Corduroy pillows are making headlines! Back home in London now after 27years wait! Duvet know it's Christmas, not original, it's a cover.

I wonder how much time the cat spends looking out the window
rather than Dr Seuss' books, these threads always make me think of Pavlovian conditioning, the cat has been conditioned to accept indoors (despite natural instincts), the human hasn't

lol , bet you some of my neighbours prob have 2 animals in a property that only allows one, so many rules get ignored when renting council housing association,an  friend ripped up the bath and put in an expensive walk in shower. in council.hoise.

or lay slabs  or tarmac garden or lay  ramps next to kerb if the have a driveway or plant fast growing bushes, you get my drift.

the cat charity is local and really ask to see tenancy agreements if it's a private rental , but obviously know social landlords are all similar when it comes to indoor cats as they have seen so many agreements regarding indoor cats which are ok, it's just outdoor cats that you must have own door.

which them gets into the topic but what if you cat uses the  ground floor window instead.

I bought an ex council low rise RTB  flat in Scotland years ago, ground floor communal entrance  and had my cat use bedroom window to get in and out

ps turn your home into the outside inside for you cat, perches, climbing towers etc, sunny lay areas, food hunting games,
an indoor cat lives 7 years longer than outdoor cos of no foxes, dogs, cars, diseases ,injuries, etc dangers

on a side note you can smoke i indoors if you rent council, why cos you get the flat a bare shell when you take it on. own decorations., carpet

I knew someone that got reported smoking in a  private sublet by standing in balcony ,funny thing was the landlord was walking past , just commenting on the private flat rules,

  • Indoor cats in a flat can thrive with the right environment. Provide plenty of toys, scratching posts, and cozy spots to keep them entertained and comfortable. Regular playtime and mental stimulation are essential to prevent boredom. Ensure they have access to fresh water, nutritious food, and a clean litter box for a happy, healthy life.

A previous lodger got herself a cat - Came from her sister who was in a "no pets" property and had an inspection coming up. I was told it was an indoor cat and wouldn't go outside.... All well and good until it decided to jump out of a first floor window at 23:00. Mad panic as we tried to get it back in - Failed miserably, and it stayed out for the next three days. Since cat decided it was not an indoor cat, it was introduced to the cat flap, and now spends much of its time outdoors.
Lodger moved out a couple of years back leaving the cat behind... Another reason for having a "No pets" policy.

Her courage will change the world.

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.

How does a cat know it is an indoor cat?

I am not an pet person and don't subscribe to a lot of the bumpf that people dream up for animals that we try to tame but if in the cat equivalent of Maslow's hierarchy of needs the cat wants to go some where else it will!

true. We had a kitten that was trained to sit indoors, it decided it wanted to go out because it sees us in and out of the house, so it cried and cried until we let it out. Cats being cats. Keeping them indoors and convincing ourselves that we can control their needs is just rubbish.

    Q1/2025 = 125.3k (interest rate dropped from 5.19% - 4.69%)

However, keeping some cats indoors is essential in the control of FIV.
