Best laptop

Daughter currently has a Macbook Air 2018 but it's on it's last legs, mouse stopped working and battery is about to give up the ghost - can anyone help with suggestions for a replacement?
She uses it for college work and watching movies on - not really sure on budget but under £1000 - thanks in advance

Does she have a Apple phone?
I think the main question is does she want to stay with Apple & the way they work or switch to Window & learn a new way?

Samsung are a good brand and the laptop is a good spec.  Yes there are mixed reviews on the Amazon page but the poor reviews appear to be related to software/config rather than the hardware.

My laptop is over 10 years old.  I would highly recommend PC Specialist if you don't mind their own brand

apparently she has an Apple phone too so looks like she wants to stick with a macbook , not convince myself but there you go - different generations etc!

  • Putting a new battery in a Macbook Air is very easy if that's an option for you.  Is it the trackpad that is failing as any mouse could be replaced too.

Things that are differerent: draw & drawer, brought & bought, loose & lose, dose & does, payed & paid

Having invested in Apple kit and services, an updated Air with M2 CPU looks doable for £1000. Swapping to Windows would be hassle with different software, cloud storage etc. and the link to iPhone.

Apple will replace the battery for £159 and there are third parties that will do it for less.

You say a mouse is failing, do you mean a mouse or the built in trackpad? If it's the built in trackpad again that could be replaced or an external device could be used like a mouse but thats not always as convenient as the built in option.

If she wants to stick with Apple and wants it to be a Laptop then the MacBook Air is your only real option unless you have a much bigger budget to go for a more powerful but heavier MacBook Pro.
