Missmsp, first of all I want to send you my well wishes and to let you know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.
I hope that you have a long time to enjoy your lovely new car, your dogs and as many holidays as you can manage. I think you have a very good attitude towards life, be practical, take good advice where you can get it and most of all live it to the full. Keep fighting, and I wish you well.0 -
Missmsp, Always very sad to hear of news of a terminal illness. Hope there are still lots of enjoyable times ahead.
I can't help you on the financial side, but I have a small suggestion that may help your family for afterwards. Last summer I wrote the tribute for my Nan and Grandad. Grandad was not a problem as he'd stayed in the same place all his life. But Nan had moved to be with Grandad, and it was quite difficult to find out even simple things like where she went to school etc. So, may be helpful to just jot down a factual skeleton structure of your life & things that are important to you. The tributes I (eventually) wrote went out to many people who couldn't attend and they found some comfort in them (as I did in writing them). I don't mean to offend you in any way, so obviously PM me if you wish me to erase this post...:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -
I'm so sorry to hear your news and don't have anything constructive to say financially, but sending you best wishes and I hope you fight the crappy thing for years and years and beat the prognosis MPxxxPrevious debt: £14K :embarasse Debt free: Sept '03

And I can't tell you how much that has helped me, strange as it may sound.0 -
Just a thought think I saw this on tv a while back. How about making a video diary for kids/family if you like, telling them how you feel about them and sharing happy thoughts with them, ie days out and how you enjoyed that special moment on such and such a day.
Get digital camera that records video/sound on to digital cards in mpeg4 format etc and they are so easy to play and burn to dvd
We have such a camera and its so easy and small to take around in your pocket all video and still records to 4gb card (cards are cheap to)
Like on of these we got one in May and they are brill got it cheaper than QVC slightly older model but records in HD

Oops, caps lock sorry.
God bless you.I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.
Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.0 -
A wealth of constructive suggestions here...& has made me realise that I should begin to build a 'memory box'....trouble is there are so many bits & pieces hanging around, that whn the time comes, the offspring will probably read through the shopping lists:o
I particulalrly like the idea of recording favourite times for future reminissess[sp?]; we've had some wonderful times that are talked about less often as new memories are made. This would have been a real blessing when my lovely FIL passed suddenly at the age of 50, when my eldest was just a few weeks old......
I also like the idea that your wishes for the final arrangements are known to all those concerned...but please bear in mind that they will be looking for something from the service too. A lovely couple of ladies in our family left specific instructions that we desperately tried to adhere to. Both stated 'no flowers' & whilst I agree that tributes can be frightfeningly expensive, to see none at all looks cold & solitary. The second sister to pass also stated she wanted to travel to & from the church alone; the pain of watching was almost physical...
May I suggest a visit to the Citizens Advice Bureau for independent direction, & maybe contacting a local hospice for advice?
I wish you well in whatever choices you make, & thank whichever deity you follow for lightening your load. BMFxFull time Carer for Mum; harassed mother of three;loving & loved by two 4-legged babies.

I believe you can apply for DLA under 'special rules' if you have been diagnosed with a terminal illness, which means the (usually lengthy) application process and decision making process is expedited and, if an award is granted, it is not time limited. It's not means tested so you must apply asap. If you get an award it will be backdated to the date on which you requested the application forms.
Good luck.Official DFW Nerd No 096 - Proud to have dealt with my debt!0 -
I've been diagnosed with secondary breast cancer on my lung. I don't know how long I've got but I'm hoping for a couple of years. I have no dependants and my estate will go to my family parents/sibling. I am 49.
I've always been a good moneysaving girl but now my priorities have changed as my mortgage etc will get paid off when I die. I want the money now so I can enjoy myself & travel.
I've thought of getting a break from mortgage payments as a starter but have you any other suggestions that would release funds now that will get paid off when I die.
I don't want to go down the equity release of my home just yet.
Wishing you all the very best for 2008, with prayers and best wishes for your health!0 -
Happy New Year to you all, I hope yours will be as good as I intend on mine being.0
