Guess I should drag myself off the sofa then. There's rather a lot to do!
Dog seems to think that outside might be more fun than inside. I'm not so sure given the wind!2 -
I've got NO seedlings growing at all! I am blaming shoddy compost for the first lot, and myself for the second, which haven't had any water while I've been away for a week 😬 might have to just grit my teeth and do some direct sowing, as the greenhouse clearly isn't my friend this year...
Beds have all had hay on over the winter so not too bad, but there are weeds growing through now - hopefully they'll just lift out of the hay 😂1 -
My nicotiana aren't happy about being pricked out. And I've used the decent compost too. I think they're probably still too small, so will leave the rest and try a couple of the ragged robin to see what happens.1
-
Actually, changed my mind and have ordered some plug plants. We are high and exposed and I just don't think the season will be long enough for direct sown things, although I'll try with salad etc. Delivery in 1-2 weeks so that gives me a deadline.2

So my lupin seeds had a great germination rate. They were doing fab In my conservatory. I moved them to the greenhouse because that's what I was building it for... growing things. And I'd say I've lost about 90% of them 😢. I've moved the surviving ones back to the conservatory.
Tomatoes and cucumber are growing I've no flowers on either yet. And the courgette is starting to finally grow.
The only thing I have 100% success rate with is ground elder and bindweed still. Oh and conker trees thanks to squirrels helping with the gardening 🙈😆
My fruit tree has been sprayed with soapy water but is still covered in black stuff 😐 hoping I don't lose the tree it's one that was gifted and isn't very old yet. No ladybirds to be seen anywhere yet which is odd.MORTGAGE BALANCE when we moved Aug 2024, £120,000. January 1st £118,267.06. Be careful Kaz, or you'll end up in Denmark
I've shoved some mange tout seeds that my neighbour gave me and I forgot to sow (Shiraz, so they're red/pink) in with the ones that germinated. And contemplated building a bean frame from coppiced hazel but it's too windy. I might just do tidying/putting away for the rest of the day, but need to make the most of the fact that it isn't raining!2 -
It is windy and raining here so I am cleaning instead.I do have a little swapping round of indoor plants to do as I notice that my latest amaryllis is about to flower so it wants swapping to somewhere it will be seen.
I need to pot on my 4 inch high home grown tomato seedlings, and the bishops crown chillies but that can wait for better weather. The free tomato seedlings I had are much further on but are tired of their 9cm pots and desperate to be in big pots in the greenhouse - an argument for later sowings I think. My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese
