Why would you do this and what might be the cost of doing so?Amy19841987 said:check th Telegram group " Utility Meters Replaced"...The legalities involved in doing this requires professional replacement. and templates for communication with service providers ~This group have a list of professionals who do this A very supportive group and all legalities discussed.Sadly I believe there are some mistaken people out there which believe they can get free gas and electricty doing this.

Thanks for that....I have just been watching Rip Off Britain and the amount of complaints about smart meters registering incorrect readings is astonishing so that is the reason why I don't want one. I will therefore take your advice and get it put into 'dumb mode' then submit my own readings online on a monthly basis.GingerTim said:
All 'dumb mode' means is that the energy company won't use the smart readings for billing, it still communicates.pennyfarthing66 said:It might be worth checking this article out:Once in place you can't have a smart meter taken out but you could request that the meter is put into 'dumb mode'.0 -

Or just leave it in normal mode and double check the readings against your bill when it comes through.

Unfortunately, the meter isn't yours and you don't have any personal choice in the matter.kb1956 said:Report0 -

This guide has a section which you may find helpful.
Whilst I don't understand your reasoning after watching the worldwide acclaimed program "rip off Britain" as the source for factual reporting. You can jnfact do what you want and have a sort of dumb mode turned on.0 -
.I have just been watching Rip Off Britain and the amount of complaints about smart meters registering incorrect readings is astonishingRip off Britain is also wrong. People not being able to tell the difference between the smart meter and the IHD (early IHDs were awful). I just speed watched it and they used incorrect data and presented it in way that plays to people with low IQ. Its like a televised version of the Daily Express.Early segment is someone that had imperial and metric errors. So, nothing to do with a smart meter.Second segment is on customer service (which is pretty poor)third segment is someone billed on a high estimate (so a smart meter would have helped)4th segment is another that was billed on low estimates until an actual meter reading was given years later and there was a debt. It was a conventional meter. A smart meter could have avoided that.5th segment was similar to 4th (another one with too low monthly payments. e.g. £58 pm for gas and electric). No readings given for over 3 years and incorrect reading given when it eventually was. (a smart meter would have avoided this)Only when you get to 36 minutes in, are smart meters mentioned in a segment. The usual flawed stat given of 4.3m failures. The first segment on smart meters were on a bodged install. The questioning of the minister was daft. i.e. if your meter is in dumb mode, people will be getting estimates. No mention of the fact that in dumb mode its working the same as non-smart meters.A really poor programme but clearly aimed at sensationalising rather than explanation.I will therefore take your advice and get it put into 'dumb mode' then submit my own readings online on a monthly basisThat seems bizarre as its not the smart meter that is the issue.
I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.8 -
That wasn't actually what the programme said, and they were presenting the stats in a misleading way anyway.kb1956 said:

Nothing wrong with you asking for "traditional mode" though - that's what they officially call it if the person you ask doesn't understand.2 -
I can't find a group with that exact name but there are load of similar and they're all outright scammers. Take payment of £250 per meter for the work. Their "professional advice" is that you tell your supplier that you've moved out, and bin any correspondence received.Amy19841987 said:check th Telegram group " Utility Meters Replaced"...The legalities involved in doing this requires professional replacement. and templates for communication with service providers ~This group have a list of professionals who do this A very supportive group and all legalities discussed.
The consequence for many of their customers (victims) is their supply being cut off, or if they're really lucky they get forced onto prepayment. Posts reporting these consequences are normally quickly deleted by the group admins. But here's an example ..
