Just embrace it and do some research into cheaper smart meter tariffs. Then enjoy the savings.2

check th Telegram group " Utility Meters Replaced"...The legalities involved in doing this requires professional replacement. and templates for communication with service providers ~This group have a list of professionals who do this A very supportive group and all legalities discussed.

I can't get my head round why people are prepared to pay hundreds of pounds to ensure they can only pay top-dollar for their energy.5

You also need permission from your energy supplier first.
