a) you cannot.kb1956 said:I will soon be moving into a new property (privately owned) that has a smart meter. I do not want it so how do I go about having it removed and changed to a conventional meter? TIA
b) why on earth would you not want a smart meter?I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. More than 50% of domestic meters are now smart meters - doesn't that in essence make them the 'conventional' meter?kb1956 said:changed to a conventional meter?

PS @kb1956 Just as a reminder - when you move in read the meter and ring the existing supplier. If you want to change supplier you are then free to do so.
As many others do read that meter regularly and keep your own records. Read those bills when you get them.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill2 -
It might be worth checking this article out:Once in place you can't have a smart meter taken out but you could request that the meter is put into 'dumb mode'.

All 'dumb mode' means is that the energy company won't use the smart readings for billing, it still communicates.pennyfarthing66 said:It might be worth checking this article out:Once in place you can't have a smart meter taken out but you could request that the meter is put into 'dumb mode'.3
