Are you sure it's a genuine Franke sink?  We had a Franke stainless steel sink fitted in our utility room over 18 years ago.  Used for heavy duty gardening/decorating/kitty litter tray cleaning, and I couldn't begin to guess at the amount of muck and bleach that's been swilled down it over the years.  Not a hint of rust.
    Cheers, I envy you.
Definitely a Franke, that’s why I am so annoyed about the condition after 4 years.
It’s hardly used, just two of us, oap’s.
just daily dishes, and  use a plastic bowl.
    got dishwasher.
    nothing caustic kept underneath.
any washing of dirty hands, clothes, etc is done in the utility room one we’ve had for 29 years, and still perfect, just a little shabby .
always used bleach etc in it .
it’s had a very hard life, and will see us out .
according to Franke, it really shouldn’t be used at all, because it seems normal usage is bad for it !
that’s why I refused their terms, to me, cheaper sinks are better.
it’s one of their costliest ones they do, £600 , and one cannot wash dishes in it.
£250, taps, also Franke, wonder when they will go ?
you don’t get what you pay for anymore it seems .
quality control is done by the customer .
    can go on forever.

Sadly, it would seem that the quality of the new sinks isn't as good as the old ones.

Not just sinks.   When our 30 year old Hotpoint fridge freezer finally gave up the ghost, despite living in the garage for the best part of 20 years, the chaps who delivered our new one said that there was no way it would last anywhere near 30 years.

Built in obsolesence, so you are forced to buy new?  What a waste.

I have noticed that shops and delivery people seem very quick to say this.
Managing expectations or selling shoddy goods?

Average monthly take home pay is ~£2300. Before people would save to buy a fridge that would cost at least half, if not more of their monthly salary. That fridge would be be in the £1000-£2000 category now and considered a pretty decent fridge. But the cost of parts for the fridges (and other stuff) has dramatically increased so of course they don’t last longer. A fridge from the 70’s may well cost £4000 now, because of the higher quality of parts. But would people pay that? No.

Plus the good ol’ rose tinted glasses of days yonder also come into play here.

Partly true, just not sure about the the rose tinted glasses. Our new fridge freezer is a Bosch, so not the cheapest option - but it was less than £700 and we didn't have to save up for it or buy it on tick.  I honestly can't remember what we paid for the Hotpoint - we had just been posted back from Germany, as newly weds, and it was just one of many things on our immediate shopping list.

Going further back, to my childhood, a small chiller fridge with a tiny ice box was a luxury item because of the cost.  We didn't get a fridge until I was in my early teens, and we thought we were well posh!

Not *so* quickly that they say it BEFORE you buy it, though, you notice? :)

I recall a similar thing when buying a VHS recorder back in the day. It was the best, had all these features, superb quality blah blah. As soon as it was bought and paid for, "Now, about extending the warranty, because these things often break down and are very complex to fix ..."

There was a percentage of me that wanted to say -- ok, if they are THAT unreliable I'll leave it, please process a refund ...
