By the way quick question, does anyone know if you can substitute oil for butter in the breadmaker? I've run out of butter and am hoping not to buy any more (esp with a new breadmaker I'd just eat bread and butter for the next week and this is not good for the already expanded waistline).
    ...

I'm sure you can do this, seem to remember a recipe that used oil - try looking through the recipe index. I'll have a shufty too, be back if I can find anything! ;)

Cheers for the bread tips, I was afraid to go into the breadmaking threads before lunch :) but I'm full up now so think I'll give it a go. I do fancy making a nice olive oil bread but I think I'll try sunflower for the regular. Thanks as always.

Oh dear, set myself a £100 budget for December + January, and I'm now £6 over with 2 and a half weeks till payday :o Trying to think positive - I did do a big storecupboard/ freezer shop so hopefully that will benefit me next month. Going to try to buy only what's absolutely necessary over the next few weeks - e.g. I have loads of frozen veg so I'm not going to buy fresh apart from onions, garlic and potatoes. Just been looking at what fruit/ veg I can plant in the garden in which month - roll on Spring!

    Heinz spaghetti x4 £1.60
I've just 'phoned morrisons as the spaghetti was supposed to be 2 pks for £2 and I didn't get the discount. They were very polite and apologetic and I will be reimbursed next time I go in the store. Makes me wonder how many other times I have not received reductions, because it's only since being on MSE that i actually check my receipts. Anyway I still have over £160 to spend for this month's challenge and another £1.20 to come back from Morrisons. And I also have a total of £10 in savings stamps towards next christmas.

Can I just say they MIGHT give you the spaghetti free when you go back because its their mistake. This happened to me with morrisons, I was buying em beer:o , and it was meant to be on special offer, but, when I got the check out, the cashier put it through at the higher amount, when I pointed it out to her, she said she couldnt change it, and I should take it up with customer services. So, I did, and they gave me the beer for nothing:T

Hopefully you will be lucky, and get your money back.

dinner on the 2nd was leftover chicken casserole cooked in slow cooker in spicy home made gravy with onions and mushrooms .

This sounds delicious. Could you give me your recipe for the gravy please.

I use my slow cooker alot too, but, i keep putting too much water in, so, whenever I make something like chicken casserole or even spag bol, it ends up watery Yuk.

So, if you dont mind, I would be really grateful if you would share it with me.

  • We rotate from shopping online to going into the store if we can every other week. When we went in to shop for the first week of January, we hit a real bargain in Sainsbury's as they had marked down a lot of meat that we could freeze. We ended up with several packages of mince, stew meat and lamb chops, normally priced around £30 for £3 pounds. For my online order coming on Sunday to cover this next week, I spent 49.47 including a delivery charge.

Our target is no more than £200 a month.
