When this happened this week (end of June 2024) (£8.70 to £22) I called O2 and asked for retentions and they offered me £10 monthly plus a good SIM-only deal for my wife, £16.40 for the two of us.

The switch to O2 was just a mess from day one.
The O2 app I’ve found to be useless as It would never let me log in correctly. Big confusions between Virgin mobile and O2 accounts.
Now I’m out of contract I’ve moved my whole family to smarty 50gb at £8 each on a monthly rolling contract each. Good value and the app is really good.

Had something similar where Virgin offered a broadband/TV and O2 sim as a retention deal which I accepted over the phone. When the confirmation email came through, BOTH virgin legs and O2 were more expensive than I had agreed to, so didn't even have the excuse of one company not seeing the other's contract. Complained and they finally listened back to the call, agreed with my numbers and applied a discount to both deals to get back to my agreed number.

Not ideal because DURING the minimum term, its now a higher base number that's liable for any annual increases with the discount unaffected, but after all the back and forth, it wasn't worth more chasing to me. However I did diarise to call to cancel at the end of the minimum term - I figured that's up to me as a consumer and they're within rights to increase after that.
