Today, Thursday, has been a Spendy Day.
My son has a rare day off from his studies, so we headed off to the next town.
We split up for half an hour as he went off across the river to get some more guitar strings, so took the opportunity to pop into the bank to ask them to look into closing a very old savings bond account that I was still getting yearly statements for, despite it having zero balance and stating it has been closed years before.
Whilst it turns out that that account has zero balance, I hadn't factored in the few days worth of interest the money had accrued whilst being in a holding account after the bond ended. Over the years this had accrued more interest and a bonus payment when the old bank was taken over by the new one. When the bank assistant checked there was nearly £200 in there 😀
The money was transferred into my current account- and I celebrated by taking my son for a beer.
The beer must have gone straight to my head as I ended up ordering a rather expensive effects pedal for after his exams.
